12/18/23, 4:47 AM - Whoah, you’re a pretty tough grader!
12/19/23, 10:16 AM - Ah, that makes more sense 😅 it’s a very nice wine when on form, lots of cork-tainted bottles in this vintage.
7/31/23, 11:00 PM - Cheers mate!
7/21/23, 11:48 AM - The answer is Jamet (Jean-Paul)! Mature Clusel-Roch will do as well.
6/3/23, 10:40 PM - Drinking well already?? May I ask did you decant?
6/24/23, 4:30 AM - Awesome, thanks!
5/9/23, 11:09 PM - It's a result of spontaneous fermentation, not something caused by the cork. Very common in the wines of many Mosel producers who only use native yeasts. But as you say, it blows off.
5/10/23, 12:16 AM - I've yet to experience cork taint that blew off but I guess YMMV.
4/21/23, 11:45 PM - Well spotted, there was a typo indeed but now fixed! For sure would buy more at this price, the QPR is on point.
4/19/23, 11:41 PM - "Weaker" years are nowadays the best in the Northern Rhône! Personally I consider the hot years weaker as alcohol levels and ripeness go through the roof. Blueberry juice can be produced everywhere around the globe :)
1/22/23, 3:39 AM - Better days are ahead! These 2014 Chablis are aging at a glacial pace.
12/28/22, 10:48 PM - Thanks for the note! Based on this bottle any guesses when it might be entering its peak drinking window?
12/29/22, 11:21 PM - Thanks! I’ve been storing since release so no problem to wait some more.
9/10/22, 2:03 AM - Cheers! Happy to get such a comment from someone whose notes have often been helpful for me.
8/19/22, 10:46 AM - Aren’t they all labeled Armand Heitz now? Can’t see any post-2018 vintages that say Domaine. I could be mistaken.
6/26/22, 9:10 AM - Flawed? How?
4/15/22, 11:31 PM - I believe we are talking here about either heat damage or your palate’s strong preference for the purple stuff. I had a pristine bottle a couple of weeks ago in Spain and it was pretty much as good as you can ever expect a Rioja Reserva to be with ideal proportions and ripeness, certainly not lacking any fruit.
1/31/22, 11:05 PM - Seems like you guys had a proper root day there looking at your notes, yikes!
10/17/21, 12:22 AM - Hi Tim, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did!
9/10/21, 7:23 AM - Hehe 😀 Happy to see you are alive and kickin’, I used to enjoy your blog back in the day.
9/10/21, 4:33 AM - Thanks for the comment! I am happy to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did. It is the entry level bottling indeed, the single parcel Cabernet Francs are called Les Pouches and Les Cormiers. I've yet to try either but I have the former's 2017 waiting in the cellar along with this wine and the Chenin called La Perlée from that same vintage.
6/20/21, 3:51 AM - Sorry to hear! Unfortunately with regards to this wine I do not share your optimism. I’ve struggled with many hot vintage Northern Rhônes but at least with many of those I have been able to visualize an avenue to beautiful maturity but here I just don’t see it. Hopefully I’m wrong though.
5/31/21, 11:15 PM - Not a Syrah though, rather a blend of Syrah (60%) and Grenache (40%).
4/28/21, 2:58 AM - Thanks! My pleasure.
4/28/21, 5:47 AM - There are too many, but here are some more recent:1995 Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas (jeroboam)2004 Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo Ghemme Signore di Bayard2013 Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino2001 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 9042016 Domaine de Villaine Bourgogne Côte Châlonnaise La Fortune2016 Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo2016 Auguste Clape Cornas Renaissance2016 Domaine du Bel Air Bourgueil Les Marsaules2011 Roagna Langhe Rosso2014 Domaine Hauvette Les Baux de Provence Cornaline2015 Nervi-Conterno GattinaraAll represent more or less what I most enjoy in reds: savory, vivid, highly drinkable and food-friendly.
4/28/21, 2:57 AM - I tried it in the beginning but at some point came to realize that I just cannot do it in such a consistent way that it would be of any use to myself or anyone else. I like words more than points anyway.
8/16/20, 11:13 AM - 15%? That does not seem right.
8/16/20, 11:55 AM - Thank goodness :) I suppose with the current trend we are not far away from this cuvée reaching 15% ABV though!
8/6/20, 9:58 PM - Cheers!
7/17/20, 12:16 AM - Riesling with a cigar? Now that's a first! Did they pair well?
7/17/20, 7:59 AM - Alrighty then, thanks for the explanation :)
5/27/20, 10:52 PM - Thanks for the note! I've been quite disappointed to see so many negative notes. Need to open my sole bottle soon, hopefully it will show as well as yours did.
5/11/20, 10:46 PM - Thanks for the note! I have a bottle and was wondering how it might be drinking right now. It's so small production that you don't see a lot of discussion about it anywhere.
4/27/20, 10:49 PM - Thanks mate!
4/26/20, 9:34 AM - Hi Rallerboy888,I like the wine, most definitely. It is not quite the kind of over-achiever I hoped it to be (not on par with say Roulot, Boisson-Vadot) but like you say good wine for the price. I am sipping it right now on day 2 and it has not lost a step, if then not improved much either.
4/16/20, 9:56 AM - Thanks mate, you just can't win every time. Regarding my notes, well, once you make a habit of it...:)
3/28/20, 12:59 AM - Thanks! There is certainly a degree of austerity to this one. That said I took my time with it and over days 2 and 3 it only got better and more harmonious and at the same time a bit less austere. I started thinking about the weird legislation for Alsace Pinot Blanc which in reality allows for a whole bunch of grape varieties as long as they are part of the Pinot family. I sent an email to the producer to ask if they could reveal a bit of what went into it, we'll see if they decide to respond.I would be highly interested to try some of the small production stuff being made in Oregon such as the one you mention but as you might expect they don't find their way over here. For that reason it's really easy to remain Euro-centric here which I don't mind as it is so easy to source wines from almost anywhere in the Europe nowadays and new things keep popping up on a weekly basis.
3/22/20, 11:46 PM - So...do I understand correctly that you hated this wine?
3/25/20, 6:44 AM - Thanks for the thorough explanation! I hope you all the best with it and I certainly wish that you will not wake up to realize one day that it is just the same system with different names for the grades :) Besides the methodology I applaud you for your the note which is very comprehensive.
3/11/20, 2:28 AM - Sometimes it's hard to decipher whether a CT note is reflecting on the writer's enjoyment or a more scientific appreciation of the wine's qualities. What makes it even more difficult to draw conclusions is the lack of information about how the wine was treated in terms of decanting, slow-oxing, food-pairings etc and the writer's mileage in any given context. I've personally taken the stance that no matter the CT notes might say I just can't expect a wine of certain pedigree to perform well at such a young age - this stuff (Northern Rhône Syrah) just needs time and any real expectations to that are just too rare.
2/23/20, 12:53 AM - "...Jean Louis Chave, his father." What the hell?
2/5/20, 10:42 PM - Lombardia, not Piemonte :)
2/6/20, 5:42 AM - It happens! Certainly the concept is somewhat the same.
2/4/20, 10:09 PM - The pleasure was all mine. Looking forward to your TN!
12/15/19, 1:17 AM - Mean scores? There is not a single sub-90 rating and on the other hand there are some 93 and 94 ratings right there :) You are rating it very near the average for this wine.
8/15/19, 1:56 AM - Not to be an asshole but can the term "watery" be understood in any other than a very negative way? Could you please explain what you mean by that?
8/15/19, 4:56 AM - Ah, I see. I think such use of the word has not spread very widely yet, thanks for the explanation though!
4/18/19, 11:03 PM - Thanks for the note! I have never had this Simone Blanc but have one bottle in the cellar and of late the notes here have not been very positive. Any ideas for the ideal drinking window?
4/19/19, 1:46 AM - Thanks mate! Really valuable info - I have really enjoyed the white Bandols I've had but based on them I would have guessed this one to be an early drinker as well.
4/7/19, 12:32 AM - I have to say I find these wines a bit problematic as restaurant wines when seemingly everyone "in the know" claims that they absolutely must be opened 24h in advance.
4/7/19, 10:25 PM - That would be interesting indeed. Personally I am yet to give that treatment to a Reynaud wine so I am not claiming to be an expert of any sort but then my experiences popping and pouring them have been all over the place, ranging from great to undrinkable. When I open this one I'll make sure to do it 24h in advance, hopefully it will lead to a better result as I am somewhat sensitive to alcoholic heat in wines myself.
2/3/19, 10:08 PM - If you found the wine better on the second day shouldn't that be all the more reason to decant the wine? Funny enough, as I visited Oddero a few years back Isabella Boffa Oddero specifically mentioned that they themshelves decant old wines but not young wines.
1/23/19, 10:08 PM - Thanks for the note. Do you see any potential here? I bought a couple of wines from the producer some years ago including this one and found the entry level stuff quite lackluster. Not that this one was much more expensive, though.
1/24/19, 9:55 PM - Alrighty. Too much good stuff around to waste time on mediocre ones.
1/23/19, 10:04 PM - The vines are very young, perhaps a grower with more CR holdings would not produce a CR from this vineyard yet. I think the wine will be more interesting in the future. Funny enough, the Chatagnier Cornas is actually Guy Farge Cornas so an outlier in the portfolio without a doubt.
1/17/19, 10:30 PM - Dessert wine? Vouvray Demi-Sec is never even close to what could be considered dessert wine levels of sweetness. Often even the sweeter Moelleux wines don't have more than 40 g/l of sugar which is most definitely less than a dessert wine would have.
1/13/19, 11:11 PM - You mean Le Mangevins? :)
1/13/19, 11:32 PM - Alright, just remove one 's' and you're there then :) A lovely restaurant, though!
12/18/18, 5:27 AM - That 2001 Krug you mention sure is a unicorn!
12/14/18, 2:28 AM - Yup. 15 years is what I’m thinking but it could be that 20-25 is closer to the truth.
9/30/18, 2:17 AM - Well for sure 2014 is one of the most approachable of the recent vintages, especially more so than 2013 or 2015. Thanks for the note, although indeed I will be waiting for decades before popping mine!
6/17/18, 10:26 AM - Dude that is something you write in the private note section, not share with other users as a ”tasting note”.
5/16/18, 12:47 AM - Thanks for the note! The other notes had made me worried about this one even though it is from a great vintage and a very solid producer. Only paid 19 € for my bottle so based on your note seems like a sweet deal.
5/9/18, 11:18 PM - Just had this wine at the domaine and was really positively surprised about the freshness considering the vintage. I agree, it will probably do very well in the cellar.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
