see my last note. A little more alcoholic than I remember, but this is actually substantially better on day 2 after sitting on the counter with the cork stuck back in. 87-88 on day1; 90-91 on day 2.

deep garnet with still a violet tinge at the edge.
Takes a little time to open fully, still, though it is tasty right from the get-go on the PNP. Great balance. This has lovely fruit, terrific texture and nice acidity. Such a nice wine and drinking beautifully, still.
Reading AG's review/note after writing the above, it is amazing how true his note still rings. The fruit has proved intense enough to stand up to the oak, which is still noticeable but has certainly receded in prominence and is most apparent on the slightly drying finish. Still, I think this will continue to drink beautifully for several more years and, perhaps - just maybe, even to it's 20th birthday.

Wow! I was expecting to hate this wine and dump it down the drain, based on my prior experiences with this producer (prematurely oxidized and OTH has been my prior experience). I have to admit that at first whiff I wasn't sure I was going to like this, but first perception can sometimes be wrong! This is a strange and idiosyncratic wine, to be sure, and there is NO way that I would have called Sancerre on this. The nose offers up tart grapefruit and preserved lemon with only the very slightest hint of grassiness - and that likely only because I am trying hard to find it. Once one knows it is botrytised sauvignon blanc, it all makes sense. The acidity is obvious on the nose and comes through strong on the palate and is a great contrast to the botrytis. The flavor is like a mix of lemon/lime with grapefruit. This is REALLY tart with a great acidic cut, but it is palate coating, as well, and not at all austere. I keep going back for more. Really, really like this. Even better on day 2.

From my cellar, this is drinking beautifully, right now. I have to point out that this went right into professional storage when I took delivery of it some 9 years ago and has been sitting there ever since. I have to agree with all the more recent positive notes below. This is pretty classic nebbiolo and strong contender for best $20 (delivered!) nebbiolo I've ever had.

pretty awful. zero pinot character. OTH. Prior bottles were nothing to write home about, either. Have one more bottle

Just terrific wine. Deep, smokey and complex. Plenty of fruit to balance the smokiness and earthiness. Brambly. Really interesting and delicious. This bottle was great right on opening.
Addendum: I just read Galloni's note from 2010 and think it is spot-on.

This wine is still silly good. Pours deep gold at this point. Was a little on the sweet side on first opening but with some air it balances out and, as before, starts somewhat fruity/sweet but finishes dry on the palate. This improved markedly with 30-60 minutes of air....it was gone within an hour and a half. I discovered a great match: it paired amazingly with blistered shishito peppers! It was also a great match for pork shank.

Medium-deep ruby with still some purple/violet at edge. Very crunchy, juicy fruit - still very primary! Nice floral/violet element and hint of garrigue. I actually think this will get better.

Still great - amazing for a 15 year old gewurz from New Zealand. Who would guess. If you like gewurz, you will really like this wine. Classic bouquet and flavors, off-dry, intense and flavorful. Wonderful with Indian curry. Yummy.

For those of you who may still have bottles of this, know that it is still fresh and drinking beautifully. Killer QPR.

Had next to the 2001 Vieux Donjon, which I found much more to my liking. This was, however, better than expected for a 2007 as it has begun losing some of the heavy, overripe jamminess I remember from when I first tasted it. Obviously, very ripe and rich, but not the alcoholic mess I was fearing. Nice flavors of kirsch with some spice. No nearly as complex and refreshing as the 01 Donjon, though. My 2007 Cotes du Rhones have been drinking beautifully for the past couple years, are the CdPs going to emerge from their hot, jammy mess at some point and drink better? I wouldn't have thought so, but this bottle might get me thinking otherwise.

Great showing. Everyone loved this wine - classic meursault. likely on the downhill at this point, given its deep color and butterscotch flavor, but by no means OTH.

This was simply stunning last night. Right from the get-go in incredible Cdp: wonderful kirsch fruit, full of earthiness, cigar tobacco, garrigue - everything one could hope for in a classic CdP. Vibrant, pure and perfectly balanced. Exceptional and exactly what I want when I open a CdP. Addenda: 1) this was nowhere near being over the hill, and 2)I just read ST's note where he said, "If someone sticks a glass of this in your face and you don't say Chateauneuf du Pape, you should give up wine drinking." - almost exactly what I said last night. This is unmistakably CdP.

This is still drinking beautifully tonight - opened last night, with 1/2 the bottle left on counter with cork put back in. Just a delicious bottle and terrific quality given the price. Fruit is still fresh, oak very subtle at this point, some nice earth and spice. good acidity. mid-weight. great with food. Really enjoying this.

Simply stunning gewurztraminer. Incredibly, Tanzer's note from 1999 is an almost perfect description of the wine today, nearly 20 years later, right down to the 'red grapefruit' description, which I never would have come up with myself. Unfortunately, I think this is my last bottle. Sweet, moderately unctuous, with wonderful and enough acidity that it is not even remotely cloying. I could drink this all night long. Fantastic. Goes great with Indian curry dish.

Josh Raynold's note rings true for me as a very accurate description of this lovely Cava. Delicious and so easy to drink, as well as having some interest. I find it very well-balanced. Simply stupendous QPR for the $10 I paid for it.

Not sure what Galloni was drinking when he wrote his note on this, but it sure as heck wasn't the same wine I was drinking tonight. I love chianti, and this was a decidedly mediocre one - nothing special at all. Red fruit that comes across almost as something artificial. Decent balance, but strikes me as manufactured wine. Not a fan. Poor QPR at close to $20.

From .375. This is just fantastic. May deserve a higher score by a point or two. Now, ready to go on the PNP, although there is still some tannin present, and this will, no doubt, go on for many more years, even in 1/2 bottles. See my prior notes, just update to ready-to-drink-now...almost. So glad I have more of this.

excellent on PNP. Herbaceous fruit with some meaty and mineral aspects, but tannins have melted away to give this a nice soft mouthfeel, even while there is some nice acidity to it. Best bottle of my bunch, so far, by a long shot. Can't understand how people thought this was on the downhill 3 years ago - still improving, to my taste, from my cool cellar! I like this much better than I did 3 or 4 years ago.

Just beginning it's mature drinking phase. finally coming into its own. Medium/deep red ruby with no browning Plum and jammy dk red/black fruit nose. Spicy cool plum, dk red berry, blackberry fruit saturates the palate. Still young, but this is quite delicious and, honestly, much better than I thought it was going to turn out based on earlier bottles a few years back. Should hold up well - and even develop - for a few more years. 90+

Utterly compelling Cotes du Rhone that would put many Chateauneufs to shame. Very ripe blackberry/black raspberry and kirsch on the nose with some minerality. Ripe fruit on the palate is more jellied than jammy and well kept in check by some nice cigar and tobacco notes and good acidity. Yum! NB - this has been in professional storage since I took delivery from Garagiste back in 2010.

I have generally not been a big fan of 2007 southern rhones (too alcoholic and extracted) but am wondering if waiting on them yields better results as I've been very happy with the Cotes du Rhones I've opened in the past 2 years. Will the Chateauneufs be better with a few more years of aging?

Terrific gewürztraminer. Bought at auction 8 years ago and in my cellar since. Now just getting around to opening. I am, admittedly, a big fan of gewurztraminers in the ZH style. This is not quite as sweet, and has a bit more minerality and litheness relative to many of the ZH wines. One of those wines that screams sweet and yet has dryness on the palate. Classic gewurz lychee and tropical fruits. Rich, but not cloying. Hint of rosewater. just yum. I'd buy more of these if I could. This was a steal at less than $20 I paid.

I genuinely feel sorry for folks who have had bad or prematurely oxidized bottles of this wine. My tasting notes echo DRS-INC and Ron Slye (last note) have written. Beautiful expression of Rousanne/Marsanne blend. Great nose, wonderful flavors and gorgeous texture. This is a fantastic wine and one of the very best $20 white wines I have ever come across. Gorgeous to drink on its own or good with a variety of food (though not for lighter dishes). Holds up well in the fridge for a couple days, as well. Wish I had more.

Right on PNP this is terrific, with a complex warm and inviting nose of red fruits, leather and baked earth that screams Tuscan sangiovese. Follows through on the palate. Wonderful mouthfeel. Secondary characteristics gain with some air and augment the fruit, which is still very much present. Tannins are soft. This is well into its drinking window and need not be cellared any further. Recently pulled from professional storage, where it has been for many years since original purchase. Just lovely. If you like sangiovese, you will love this wine. It was a big hit with everyone.

Deep blood red. Beautiful nose of meat, dark red fruits. Deep. Succulent, ripe fruit with nice acidity to balance it so it is not heavy of jammy, though it is rich and thick. Really a terrific California Syrah that is drinking fabulously well right now and should go on for several more years. Seriously, I wish I could throw this into a Guigal LaLa tasting. It would show Cali, but would make people perk up and think twice for a moment. Wish I had more.

Mothers' Day. Delicious, mature Champagne and, as Champagne goes, a bargain at $50/btl, as this can compete with bottles double the price. Moreover, I'm much happier drinking this than a top vintage Champagne that is 10 years too young. Nice yeasty, moderately rich flavor. Some might want a bit more cut, but I like a rich mouthful of flavor in my Champagne, and this delivers nicely. Yum. Bonnie really likes it, too. Yay!

This is, to me, not nearly as interesting as the 2007 Peters I drank recently. This has rich, ripe California pinot fruit....and, that is kind of the problem. It is very rich and ripe, with fairly hefty alcohol and just doesn't have nearly the complexity or elegance of the Peters, which is much more Burgundian. Don't get me wrong - I like this fine. It is a really nice Cali pinot, but a bit to ripe and over-the-top to be excellent, for my palate, and not what I want when I want a pinot. Too heavy. Fans of Martinelli and Marcassin pinots will find a lot to like here. By the way - not at all over-the-hill; this is still very fresh, at least from my cellar.

What Loren Sonkin said. Amazingly, after 2 days open on the counter with a cork in it, still delicious, and a 1/2 glass left out overnight after that is still terrific and becoming more burgundian! 92+, as I think this gains complexity and still improves from here, to my taste.

Agree with basically everything Brooklyguy has written on this wine. My one disagreement would be perhaps where this is going. Many of my 2005 cru beaujolais have been surly and unappealing for many years until recently, when most of them have blossomed into things of beauty. Perhaps, this one is just a little slow. It certainly seems to have the material. For now, however, it is surly and requires some significant effort to get to a place of modest enjoyment. Ultimately, judgement reserved.
