Still has a mauve edge. This wine is aging slowly. Smells and tastes like a young wine. Blackcuurant, blackberry, blueberry, cherries with lemon grass. Well balanced. Great intensity. Best after one hour. My guess is that it will be at its best between 2022-2037.

Inky black. Mature bouquet with earth, forest floor, mushrooms also tobacco, blackcurrant, blueberries, cherries, roses, mint, black olives and tomato vine. Well balanced palate integrated firm tannins good length changeable, fullbodied, elegant velvet mouth feel. At 15 years old it is going strong. Reminds me of a good St Julien like Leoville Las Cases or Ducru Beaucaillou. Drunk at 16 degrees Riedel bordeaux glasses. Good from opening till finished at 90 minutes.

A lesser vintage of Latour. Opaque with garnet hue. Has the typical Latour power and calmness. It has developed an aged bouquet. Cassis, nutmeg, menthol, iodine, medicinal aromas, black olives, pepper, cinnamon, roses, blueberries, cherries, dates, blackberry, milk coffee, cedar, mint, cigar box, dirty water, brown sugar, gravel, prunes and dried apple. Best between 25-75 minutes in the decanter.

A typical aged Latour with an interesting juxtaposition between power and calmness. There are iodine notes consistent with age. My only criticism is that it could do with a little more acid to firm it up. Nevertheless, a wonderful wine.

The last time I tasted this wine it seemed shutdown. Two years later, it has emerged from its cocoon transformed. It is developing a typical aged Bordeaux bouquet as well as manure and fruit compote. It has all the ten features of a great Bordeaux. Its character is black, masculine and extroverted.

Mahogany with opaque core. The bouquet is magnificent. There is an iconic aged cabernet aroma with ground coffee but so much more. Herbs, spice, manure, earth, tobacco, cigar box, camphor, dark chocolate, floral notes, roses, mushrooms, iodine, shoe polish, menthol and old oak. It is an aged bouquet. The palate is full-bodied. Perfectly balanced and integrated. Firm but soft tannins. Flavours reflect the bouquet but there are reminders of its youth with blackcurrant, blueberries, cherries, raspberry and mint, There are charcoal and mineral flavours. The length is never-ending. There is a sense of depth of nature and a calmness yet powerful as well. This wine has a unique personality. Absolutely wonderful. Serving temperature 14 degrees C. Best from 25 minutes from opening to 90 minutes when finished. Riedel Bordeaux glass.

This bottle was purchased at auction Its level was very low neck. The wine was expertly decantered by a sommelier in Tetsuya's restaurant in Sydney. It was best after 45 minutes to when it was finished at 90 minutes. Served in Riedel glasses at an estimated temperature of 17 degrees C on average. The appearance was an inky opacity with a mahogany rim. At its best, the nose was intense with a sense that the bouquet was being pumped out. The aromas were blackcurrant, blackberry, pencil shavings, cigar box, tobacco leaves, charcoal, cherries, licorice, pepper, brown sugar, cinnamon, menthol, vanilla, smoke, wet earth, manure, minerals and coffee. The palate was full bodied and elegant. Initially, there was some slight sourness and bitterness, but this resolved by 45 minutes. The length was exceptional. The wine was beautifully integrated with a sense of a single flavour/aroma entity based on an iconic aged bordeaux cabernet spine. The wine was changeable from sip to sip. The wine’s personality would be best described as extroverted. This bottle is drinking well now at 32 years. I would be drinking the two companion bottles bought in the next few years to avoid the risk of being too old though who’s to say they may not last decades and even improve further.

This wine is just simply delicious. You can't stop drinking it. No matter what analysis follows, the wine is unpretentiously delicious. Mauve edge on an opaque inky core. The nose is big and is dominated by minerals, charcoal and roasted herbs. It is also complex with cinnamon, cloves, blueberry, cherries, blackberry, chocolate, plum, tomato vine, coffee, cigar box, pencil savings, wet earth and stones. Full bodied and balanced. Length greater than 40 seconds. Heaps of unobtrusive tannins. The wine is best drink after 40 minutes. Montrose says this wine will live for a hundred years!

I would have to agree with several recent comments from Cellartracker members that this wine seems to be shutting down. I noticed a decline in the wine in June 2016 when I tasted it last. The hue is ruby garnet. The nose is dominated by pencil shavings but in the background is cassis, cedar, dark chocolate, cigar box and marzipan. The nose starts to open after 20 minutes in the glass. It is full-bodied. There are dark cherries, mint and tomato vine. There are prominent bitter tannins that dominate the palate. The length is at least 30 seconds. Drunk at 15 degrees C. Riedel Bordeaux glasses.

This ruby-hued wine offered up intense aromas of blackcurrant, black cherries, eucalyptus, dark chocolate, mint, earth, roses and cigar box. The nose has opulence. Has not developed significant aged characters such as old damp wood. Compared to the tasting in 2014 the wine has opened up. The palate is full-bodied, elegant and with loads of firm tannins. The wine is best at 20 minutes in the decanter. Drunk at 16 degrees C.Riedel Bordeaux glasses. Over the next few years, the wine should soften and develop more aged characters. Score 99

This 16 year old Bordeaux from St Estephe is fully mature. I tasted it at 14 and it still had some youth about it then. Now, the colour has mellowed from ruby to mahogany still retaining an inky core. The bouquet has several layers with a bottom note of earth, forest floor and decayed wood. There is a top note of violets and roses. There are spices like cinnamon. There is a hint of youthful blackcurrant. The palate is fullbodied which is not surprising as 2000 was one if the greatest vintages in Bordeaux. Well balanced and elegant. Art, history and nature in a glass.
