First note, from coravin because I won't be finishing this tonight or tomorrow. Serious color, opaque deep red with a touch of brown at the edges. It's opening up in the glass to show a really nice nose of big bold sweet fruit with a bit of heat. The oak is not overpowering in any way. Beautiful and round in the mouth, but I think there's much more under here that isn't showing yet. Finishes long and strong. Could use 3-5 more years, but I won't hesitate to open and decant the next bottle soon.

Better than the last bottle, but still not great. My sense the whole way through was that it was dried up, lacking real fruit. Not a bad wine, but not a good wine either. Drinkable and pleasant, but that's all.

Really nice mature claret. Has some mature cassis fruit, bit of an earthy thing, hard edges. Tannins have faded, fruit is starting to show some signs of tiring. Drink up, probably only has 5 more years of life. Next bottle soon.

Nice bottle of wine, very pleasing. Lacks seriousness, but that's ok sometimes. Still a little wound, can drink now or wait. It will likely improve.

Large and lovely. This is a well-rounded structured wine with a great core of fruit. It's still tight, but with a decant of a few hours it's probably great. I think it's just at the start of its drinking window, probably could last another 20 years. No idea if I'll find out!

Beautiful brunello, but maybe a bit big and luscious for real old style brunello fans. Chocolatey, earthy, sweet oak, lots of structure. It'll last a while, no rush, but it's not wrong to drink this beauty now!

Coravin for the first 2-3 nights, then opened the bottle a few nights in.
Tight the whole time, I don't think this is ready. Really good core of fruit, no hard edges, but I don't think it's giving all it has. Probably worth revisiting in another 3- 5 years. Perhaps would go well now with a meaty dish and if given time in the glass to open.

Still gorgeous. Mildly dark, viscous but somehow still light. Not at all cloying. The botrytis character is great. Stone fruit, a bit nutty. A perfect foil for berry pie at Mike & Ivana's house with Sheila and Jam. This bottle was very encouraging, didn't taste old or tired.

Night one, it had a nice attack, decent body, but then just went nowhere on the finish. Two nights later, bottle refrigerated, and actually it's showing very nicely. It's too cold right now, but I'm getting more from it at this point- Sweet and sour cherries on the nose and in the mouth, and almost a cherry liqueur thing too. There is a bit of a sharp side on the finish, but this wine actually has some length now, contrasting to 48 hours ago. Glad I saved the open bottle, it's very nice right now. 87 first night, 91? now.

2005 Château Gloria St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
After reading my note from last year I was excited for this bottle. Either there is bottle variation or this wine is still in the process of shutting down. This one was hard as nails. Showed signs of ripe fruit but it was hiding behind a wall of acid and tannin. I feel like this needs another 10 years! I'll probably drink another next year though because I don't have that kind of discipline.

Very nice right now. Softened quite a bit, still good fruit with body but no sweetness. A bit earthy. Ready to roll now.

Very nice bottle tonight. Started a little on the herbal side, but in a good way. Over time the fruit rounded out and the minty/eucalyptus side showed nicely. Good acidity, tannins are still a bit firm but not unpleasant. I like where it is now, might improve a little but I don't feel bad drinking this now.

My impression is that this is a very ripe wine. Strong fruit, decent acidity. My only criticism is that I'm not posiive it's typical brunello. I think it's still probably on the upswing, likely to get better for a few years but the ripeness concerns me a bit, it might end up overly pruney.

I like it, but I'm not sure I fully understand it. It's got a bit of an earthy quality on the nose, along with some sweet fruit and spice. In the mouth it's got acidity but nothing like what an Italian Sangiovese would present. Very pure, good medium weight, nice finish if a little short. It's a pleasant easy drinking wine, but not alluring or compelling. Enjoyable now. I wonder what it'll do down the road?

My initial impression upon smelling the wine was "oxidized". After a bit that impression settled, I think it's a quality of this wine/vintage that the fruit is very ripe, but there's no doubt in my mind it has aged some too and should be drunk now. It's got strong sweet fruit but I might mistake this for Spanish rather than Rhone. It's really big and round. On the back end I get the sense of something waiting underneath that might hurt tomorrow when I come back to this wine. Very nice, but I'm glad this is my last.

A costco bargain. Probably only sold there too! Med ruby color. Nose is a little reticent, but is Rhone grenache, and a bit spicy. In the mouth it has some weight but isn't overly serious. Good cherry and a bit candied. The tannins aren't harsh, the acidity is high. It has structure to last and a solid fruit core. Tasting blind I might say it's a CdR, although it is a little more serious than the average one. I think it has time to go, will probably improve, but I bet it'll be awkward in about 5 years then really good in 12-15 years.

Too hard, I think the fruit just didn't survive. There was structure, but no fruit. Should have been drunk young I suspect.

For the first hour or so I might have mistaken this for a 2003 bordeaux- ripe, rich, dark fruit, refined, and a long supple finish. Then it transitioned into what was unmistakably Chilean to me- that brambly high tone dominated and once I had it I couldn't shake it. Nice wine, but I'm not sad it's gone, I just hate when that Chile thing takes hold. First hour- 94 poiints, after that 88 points. Weird, I know.

Gorgeous. Deep red color, proper. A toasty sweet nose, red fruit detected, maybe a bit of tobacco. In the mouth this shines- sweet cassis fruit, dark, nothing hard. Pure and long, barely any tannin but the structure of this wine survives. Long finish, I keep wanting to drink more. Better after 24 hours open, which makes me think it has time, but it's definitely ready now. I love this.

Very enjoyable bottle. A little earthy with great herbals but good dark fruit. Acidity is balanced, mild tannin. Enjoyable now, I don't think it's getting better, but I don't think this bottle was over the hill either.

Dark ripe wine, this will last a long time. Still quite a bit of tannin but a lot of body, power, not over ripe. Nicely done, I should have saved more but I think I only have 3 left. Will probably go another 15-20 years.

I got fooled in 2012, thought it would not amount to anything. Turns out this is a wonderful mature brunello! Some chocolate and raisins on the nose with a sweet honey quality, a bit earthy. Medium bodied with rich cherry fruit and tobacco. High acidity, typical of the style. Good with food, good on its own. This bottle was a winner! One more, drink in the next 5 years or sooner, I think it's at peak right now. I'm guessing it'll evolve into leather with too much time in the bottle.

I really liked this bottle. Not a heavy serious wine, more of a lighter style CdP, but I don't think that's a flaw. If you want a big meaty wine, this isn't it. A lot of Garrigue on the nose, maybe a bit more than Garrigue even. Slightly steely. In the mouth it's delicate, floral, has good high notes, and some good grenache fruit. Tannins have resolved, acidity is a bit high. There is a slight bite at the back end which is the only flaw. It drank well over a 24 hour period. Wish I had more! Again, this isn't Beaucastel, it doesn't take itself so seriously, it is a charming intriguing wine, but you have to like the style.

Turned out this was actually "Le Coeur des Dames". Nice bottle, but not giving much. Seemed tight, unyielding. I'm not sure it ever gets to what it should be, I suspect this is a reflection of the vintage, but what the hell do I know about burgundy anyway.

Can't believe this is the first of these that I have drunk! Drinking very well right now. Slightly herbal on the first night, but in an attractive way. The second night all the dark tones came out and it was really a rich and luxurious wine. Easy to drink, great finish. Really nicely done (again)!

A lovely bottle of CdP. Some very ripe notes, a few times it tasted a bit on the pruney side, but generally I found this typical of the region with garrigue and sweet fruit, a little steely at times, and a nice long finish. Might improve with a bit more time, but I'm not certain, this might be all there is.

Expressive nose. A bit of leather. Blue/black fruits on the palate. Fairly tight at first, it softened with time. By the second night the ripeness of the fruit was apparent, but this is still brunello, it's not overly sweet or obvious. Worth trying now, drink over the next few years, it might end up too leathery/woody after that.

Drinking nicely. Slightly brown color. Earthy nose, maybe a bit of mineral. Muted fruit, not a powerhouse but with food the charm of this wine really shows. Lovely finish, easy to drink. Drink now.

Took some time to soften and really come alive. It was a little astringent immediately after opening, then the next night was a beautiful floral soft wine with a lot of character and good length. Last bottle and I have no regrets. If I had more I would drink or hold, I bet this wine has another decade in it, another very strong small wine from 2000.

In Breck before dinner. Very powerful, a little toasty oak, good fruit core, but could use a few more years to lose the pucker. Much more firm than the 2000 Pichon Baron, I think this needs another 5 years.

In Breck, before dinner. A wonderful wine. Has structure, sweet fruit, fine tannin. Elegance, class, finesse, and power. It's ready to roll and I think will likely stay on a plateau for a bunch of years before aging out.

Interesting experience. On the first night I started to get a stewed fruit sort of thing, it wasn't pleasant after a while. On the second night it came around as a really nice mellow rhone wine with garrigue, and licorice. It was very pleasurable on the second night. I have no idea what this all means.

Very solid wine. Powerful fruit, strong body. Perhaps a little over-ripe, I think that's a vintage characteristic. Drinks well now, might improve, but I have little experience with this type of wine to know that.

Not even sure where/when I got this one. Pulled it out tonight to go with some pizza. Very clear, light ruby red. Intoxicating floral nose with licorice, bright fruit, and maybe a bit of leather or bitter chocolate. Lovely in the mouth, relatively light with really nice acidity. Finishes nicely, medium length. Really good effort for this maker.
