Very solid wine. Powerful fruit, strong body. Perhaps a little over-ripe, I think that's a vintage characteristic. Drinks well now, might improve, but I have little experience with this type of wine to know that.

Sadly I think this bottle had passed. A little stewed, not lively in any way. I don't think this is a reflection on this wine, I think it's just what happens to some bottles after 20 years.

Not even sure where/when I got this one. Pulled it out tonight to go with some pizza. Very clear, light ruby red. Intoxicating floral nose with licorice, bright fruit, and maybe a bit of leather or bitter chocolate. Lovely in the mouth, relatively light with really nice acidity. Finishes nicely, medium length. Really good effort for this maker.

At peak! Don't wait! Sweet cedar and dark fruit on the nose. Fantastic fruit in the mouth. Tannins are soft. By the second night this had faded a bit. Absolutely gorgeous now. I'm sad it's gone but at least I'm not under any pressure to finish more bottles since this was my last.

Just great and at peak. Stupendous value. Rich and ripe, not overdone. Ready to go. Drink now. Second night wasn't quite as good. Anyone have a connection to get me a wine of this quality for $32 today??

Drunk at my 50th. My first impression was that it's over-ripe. After a bit of air this showed really nicely, sweet fruit, a little plummy. Drinking well now, probably can start running through my case liberally.

Really great bottle of syrah. I think it needs a bit of time to settle down and lose some of its overt fruitiness. This wine has a ton of ripe fruit and a shady forest quality that is really really nice. Very enjoyable.

Somewhat dead. It's there but the fruit seems to have gone away. Nothing wrong per se, just nothing exciting. Maybe it's just too late or maybe this was an off bottle. I'm disappointed.

Quite good, I wouldn't peg it as malbec necessarily, which might be why I like it. Good fruit, leaning on malbec rustic qualities without being too rustic. The body is firm, I think it's acid rather than tannin. It goes down easily, good finish but not mind-blowing. A solid wine that might improve once I let the glue dry. My initial impression is that it's a notch below the 2014, which I really love.

I bet the ratings on CT suffer from negative bias. I drink a lot of rhone reds, and I look for the inexpensive gems, I think the Southern Rhone represents some of the best $15-$25 values around. This one hits that mark well. Unmistakably Grenache based with a candied quality but it has a serious side as well. Mourvedre provides some amazing forest scents, like exotic wet pine with a truffle hidden somewhere. It drinks so easily- grenache candy, Syrah depth. Maybe a bit hot overall, but it's still so young, I bet it will mellow. If there's any left I'm buying a bunch at Costco, I'll stash a few for fun and drink the rest in the near term. A great value. I'm not sure who made this, but it's well made, a proper Village wine.

Absolutely gorgeous wine. Some forest, licorice, a touch of mint, and blackberries on the nose. In the mouth there is amazingly concentrated fruit with a dark side, darker than what I'm used to in Brunello. Long finish, good acidity and some fine tannin. I would have a hard time naming this as a brunello if I were to taste it blind, perhaps because I'm not use to this style. In any case it's amazing and I wish I had bought more.

Really nice wine, drank over 24 hours. On opening it was a little reticent, but good graphite with some cassis and a minty side. Slightly hot nose. 24 hours later it's about the fruit- deep and dark but not Napa sweet, more Bordeaux, talking fruit but with a mineral stony side, slightly charred, some oak. The finish is long and perplexing, it's hard to know if I actually like the finish, but I keep reaching for more wine. Still some tannin. I quite enjoy this as a classic. I think I would buy more if I could get it at the same price (low $40s)

Unmistakably Chilean- dark, brambly, with characteristic cactus qualities on the nose. Some burnt tar too. Nice in the mouth but there's a bit of a bite. I think the structure might have out-survived the sweet fruit, I found this lacking charm. It's not that the fruit tastes tired, it's just a little lacking in anything sweet.

Wow! This is fighting way above its class. Not decanted. The nose is gorgeous and room-filling- A slight spice, but I'm completely hung up on the dark chocolate powder character and ripe rich fruit. In the mouth there is a bit of bite from the tannin but so much rich mouth-filling goodness. The finish is gorgeous, but I think it might benefit from 2-5 more years in the cellar. Right now there is nothing wrong with drinking this. It might even improve with a few more years. This is a stunning wine.

The darkest of the three (Suduiraut and Rieussec are the other two). A little nutty flavor profile, a little heavy overall while still having great acidity. Not clumsy on its own but compared to the other 2 it seemed a bit that way. Very enjoyable, very refined, long finish. 93 points.

This is a serious Sauternes. Honey, waxy, a bit of almond, and some weight to this wine. Sweet, but nothing out of balance, terrific acidity. The waxy and almond side can weigh a bit. Lingers in the mouth. I prefer slightly lighter Sauternes. 95 points. Drink now or in the next 40 years.

So light in the mouth, not quite as serious as the Rieussec, but still profound. It dances across the tongue, with honey , orange peel, and marshmallow notes. The high acidity kept it so light that I'm not even sure the wine ever touched my tongue. Finishes for about 2 weeks. Gorgeous, maybe my favorite Sauternes ever.

Gorgeous wine that needs a little more time for full maturity. Opened up in the glass over the course of a couple of hours. Luscious fruit, rich and round. The tannin will mellow out I'm sure. Drink now with a short decant or wait a few more years.

Really nice mature Napa mountain fruit. A little spicy and super ripe. Could be more complex, but I don't think this has much to gain, I think it's at peak now. Drink soon- next 2-4 years for sure.

Charming on the first night. Somewhat sweet fruit with a bit of a tart side, perhaps some cocoa. Tannins soft. By night 2 (24 hours later) it had become too soft, tasted a little too aged with a bit of a brown color. Nothing wrong per se, but this is ready now and might be starting to slide downhill. Drink up!

My first thought was that this can go a lot longer. Very rich and round, complex, deep. Still a little tannic, but not pucker worthy. I think this might improve with a few more years, but it is mighty delicious right now, a good foil for grilled marinated skirt steak.

Finally a not-corked 2003 Numanthia! This one had really great fruit, but still had a bit of a hard edge to it. I'm sure it can go many more years, but I'm not positive it will improve, the vintage was just a bit of a harsh one I suspect, being part of a heat wave that year.

Still very much alive. The Mourvedre is shining in the terrific floral nose. Full body but not obnoxious, good spice and garrigue. Long finish, no hard edges. Could be a little more complex, but overall a terrific wine, can't remember where I bought it or for how much but it was great to pull out tonight

Steely graphite nose with good fruit background the first night. 24 hours later the mineral/steel note had faded behind the fruit. The fruit is definitely ripe, a little on the plum side. Strong attack, a bit of a bite at the back side, moderately long finish, but it just a feeling at the end, not much fruit left. Tannins are pretty softened, I think this is ready to go.

A fun wine. Good brunello character, but not particularly strong or powerful. Bit of an acid bite at the end, and it's not very long. Pleasant wine, but I'm glad I didn't pay more than $30 for it.

Sacrificed this one for fun, never logged it into the cellar. Bright ruby red color, quite clear. Great rhone nose of Garrigue, maybe slightly boozy. So nice in the mouth- light on its feet but still quite serious. Moderate fine tannin, and while there is a bit of a tannic burn it's not a bite. I think that with a few years it'll be a real charmer. It will be fun to watch this develop.

Nice, but I found it a little messy/awkward. Nice nose, pretty big overall, just a little muddy and poorly defined. Tannins are fairly soft. I'm not sure if this needs more time or it's already too old. Nothing particularly "aged" about it in a classic sense, yet it's not as bright or vibrant as it used to be. I'll go through the rest of mine slowly, see what happens.

The tannin has mellowed out a ton and the fruit remains. It's big and a little burly for bdx, but has no hard edges drinks like a $30 wine or better. 2 bottles knocked out over 2 nights, and both seemed pretty similar, a good sign. Finish could be longer, but no complaints here.
