Smooth and vibrant on first sip, but coiled tight. Became creamy, with tropical fruit, vanilla, and touch of oak after 30 minutes in glass. Better in another year. Drink 2018 - 2022.

Not what I was expecting. Opaque black wine. Nose says this is cab/bordeaux. Confirmed on the palate. Rich cassis dominated with blackberry and toasty oak with cedar nuances. Some dry cocoa and a hint of coffee add to the overall taste. Velvety with a presence of prickly tannin. Finish dominated by cassis and oak. I would be surprised if this could not fool a room full of tasters into believing that they were drinking Cali Cab, and with a bit of a stretch, even Bordeaux.

12/23/16, 5:30 PM - Dr. Dave, 12 years after this review I had a very similar tasting experience with this wine. It is still smelling and tasting more like an older Cali cab than a petite sirah; the cassis and cedar are still there, and they are now accompanied by a bit of a tobacco tone too.
