This was singing. Unanimous 1st place in a blind tasting of Syrahs that all showed well. Red/black fruit, spice, bacon, with hints of toasted herbs, black pepper, and olive. In a great spot -- perfectly integrated and with secondary elements but still had lots of verve and youthful energy. Could age further, but this is so delicious right now, I say go ahead.

Elegant expression of cherries and soil. Too strong for octopus. Great with pasta— wild boar, vodka sauce. A nice socialism wine- a blend, more similar to a Nebbiolo than other wines on the mainland. We all liked.

Strawberry jam, with some raisin notes, baking spices and an earthy cocoa note. Overripe.

Simply put, because I do not like very good wine, especially for $40. I only like excellent and outstanding wine at this price point.

That was only slightly sarcastic... I will admit my scores are inflated, but it is in the spirit of keeping in line with average CT scores and most wine critics. That being said, the quasi-objective quantitative scoring of a wine's merits and my subjective "like or don't like" impression are two completely different things. There are some very well-made CdP that I just do not like, for example.

Perhaps I'm reading into your comment too much, but I get the impression that your premise of sincere curiosity is glib. I'm surely not the only person on CT you've encountered that doesn't like an 85-89 point wine. I've probably stirred up some pet peeve of yours. In the future, instead of wasting your time with a hollow comment, just block my tasting notes.

Bright, medium yellow. Right off, honeysuckle and charred oak with weight and palate feel that was very much like Meursault, right down to the hazelnut and cinnamon-like spiciness. As it opened out, the wood thankfully dropped back to a more supporting role, orange zest came to the fore, the acidity and minerality perked up, and the body became a little less dense. In the end, very good, but not as finely tuned or exciting as the 2002 was when we drank it last year. The wood sticks out a bit compared to the older vintage.
