I might rate this wine higher on my next tasting but this was a stunner and such good value at the price point. Decanted and aerated for 90 minutes which is what the wine needed to open up. Nose of red and black fruits, meat, spices, olive tapenade. On the palate very rich, starts slowly and builds up in complexity to reflect an awesome structure, nice complexity and balance. Medium to full bodied, this deep ruby colored wine finishes long with tannins fully integrated and ripe. This wine is mature and ready for business

Beautiful golden yellow color, very evolved. Nice fizz in the glass, got better with more oxidation. Nose of candied apples, stones, gun flint reminiscent of white Ermitage wines. Dense on the palate, very lively yet a bit stern, ends on a note of brioche and long in the mouth. Lovely

To say the truth I was expecting much more but could be that some 82s are going through a dumb phase much like some 1990s or 2005s a while back, so I will wait a couple of years before I pop open another bottle. Nonetheless, the wine clearly showcases the 82 vintage with a mature nose of cassis, black currants, lots of leather and tar. Ruby red color with slight bricking throughout the wine but surprisingly youthful color. Very tight bottle even after 2 hrs+ in the decanter. On the palate the fruit is cloaked by the tar, leather and crushed rocks with some hints of spiced dark red fruits. You can tell the fruit is dying to come out in layers but to me it seemed early days for this wine in this current period, unless this is specific to my case. Finished long and slightly dry, with tannins coated in the bitter coffee finish. Intriguing at this stage but nothing to write home about.

Very nice for a NV champagne. I prefer it to Krug NV. Nose of stones, lemon and brioche with zesty lemon marzipan on the palate, very vivacious whilst quite balanced, mineral and nice finish.

Having tasted the Grand Vin 2000 at Chateau Margaux a little over 3 years ago, I was looking forward to drinking this stunner of a second wine, having last tasted it 7 years ago. I was not disappointed as the wine has evolved to a complex wine and shed its drying tannins. Beautiful deep crimson color, nose of cigar box, blackberries and cassis and jasmine perfume. On the palate very supple entry, velvets mid palate with an explosion of black and dark red fruits. Superb structure, complexity and balance for this medium to full bodied wine. Finishes long with tannins very subtle and a note of dark cassis and flowers. Definitely stocking up on this one!

Probably should have decanted and aerated for 3 hours rather than 1hr+ deep blackish ruby color, nose of leather, pencil lead, cassis, black currants. On the palate very masculine and linear, not a lot of complexity but with promises for great evolution in 5 to 10 years. Way to young, tannic, great backbone and finishes very dry and long. Needs massive time. A wine to watch.

Best bottle so far. Pristine bottle, cork in one piece, decanted and aerated for an hour then drank over 90 minutes. lovely deep ruby color, nose of dust initially infused with cassis and raspberries and rock. On the palate very tactile entry, medium bodied and gained weight with more air, complex secondary notes and fruits on the palate perfectly balanced by a super structure and acidity, still mineral and rocky, end with caressing tannins, red fruits and pencil lead. Beautiful wine.

Beautiful champagne. Light golden yellow color, refined bubbles, nose dominated by brioche, stone, marzipan and pineapple. On the palate very dense, good lift and structure, very hedonistic, still needs time to evolve to its full potential and a long finish. Excellent by all counts.

Opened and decanted over an hour then drank over another 90 minutes. Deep crimson color, nose of black tea, a bit green in the beginning with notes of leather, dark cherries, dark berries. On the palate ot took an hour or more for the green and bitter dry finish to transform into pure black cherries, berries, hints of leather and spice, medium bodied palate and a decent finish with some spice cake. Good wine but requires more time in the bottle.

Wow this time I was sober to appreciate this great wine from one of my favorite vintages in Bordeaux. Drank from magnum after decanting and aerating for a couple of hours. Definitely evolved animal nose infused with cassis, tobacco leaf, black currants. Color showing its 30 years of age and on the palate medium to full bodied, very supple entry, complex structure, great texture and balance with cassis, tobacco and currants dominant, finishes long. Great wine.

Decanted and aerated for 4 hours which helped the wine open up. Very masculine nose of cassis, black currants, leather, earth and pencil shavings and confirms why I love this vintage. on the palate medium to full bodied, very precise wine, multi structured and still 10 years from peaking given magnum format. Finishes long with very soft tannins.

Drank from magnum. Decanted and aerated for 3 hours then drank over 3 hours with friends. Jammy raspberries, blackberries and sweet spices on the nose fully and opulently reflected on the palate. Very elegant yet powerful wine, solid structure and body and a long beautiful finish with tannins fully covered by the rich fruit. Delicious hedonism.

Dark crimson color. Decanted and then drank over 2 hours. It took an hour for the nose to open up to cassis, dark currants, pencil lead and rock. On the palate very linear and even salty in the outset but the wine gained volume and intensity with time to reflect cassis, pencil lead, leather and black currants. Very mineral and precise, decent body and finish with tannins present but soft. Lovely for the price point.

This wine is gaining complexity with age. Deep ruby red color, decanted and aerated for 2 hours. Drank over 3 hours with friends. Nose of cassis, pencil lead, black olive tapenade and old leather. Some tertiary notes with excellent balance, medium to full bodied, lots of cassis and dark red fruits mid palate and a pretty good peppery finish with tannins slightly present but fully coated with the fruit. Lovely wine and great value.

Drank over new year's with friends out of bottle rather than magnum as I had done a few years ago. Golden yellow color, nose of brioche, pineapple, yellow apples and honeysuckle. Vivacious bubbles, very dynamic and buttery entry on the palate, great minerality and long fat finish. Excellent champagne.

Tremendous Pauillac and a clear reminder why this is my favorite appellation. Bright ruby red, decanted and aerated for an hour then drank over 2. Nose of cassis concentrate, ink, black pepper, and some black currants all fully reflected on the palate. Powerful wine, very complex structure and built to last another 20 years. Tannins coated by the richness of the fruit and texture of the wine that finishes very long on hints of pepper. Simply delectable. I need to buy more of this beauty!

I have to say that having had many DP1990s I expected much more from Krug. Beautiful golden yellow color demonstrating how evolved this champagne is. Fine bubbles much more vivacious than in the DPs that I've had to date. However on the palate and nose citrus and pink grapefruit were dominant without much depth. Long finish but not the complexity I was looking forward to. 2 more bottles left so will retry this in few months and see if this bottle was an aberration.

Dark ruby red color. Decanted and drank over two hours. Nose of earth, leather, dark currants and cassis. On the palate needs more time to mature, solid acidity but needs more depth. Still quite tannic and lacks the opulence of the vintage. I would retry in few years.

Very evolved color of tawny ruby red. Cork cracked so bottle may be slightly flawed. Nose of prunes, spices, dusty earth, and raisin. Decanted and aerated for an hour and drank over two. Thin on the palate, signs of volatile acidity and time in the decanter didn’t help the wine build volume.

This wine is in business. Beautiful ruby color, nose of candied raspberries layered with spice cake. Very forward on the palate with lovely acidity and balance. The quintessence of Vega mirrored in this excellent vintage. Medium to full bodied with a long gratifying finish. Not the most complex vintage but certainly one of the most hedonistic.

Deep crimson color, hardly any signs of aging. Decanted and waited a couple of hours before drinking. Muted nose of cassis, pepper, pencil lead, new leather. On the palate very tight and masculine, powerful wine with a tremendous structure inhibited by this LB’s young age. Very tannic and long peppery finish. I can see this needing another 10 years at least to reach maturity. Incidentally I tried the wine the next day and it was much more open.

Not sure why recent notes talk about a closed one dimensional wine. To me it was the opposite. Pristine cork, dark ruby color, nose of spicy and candied raspberries, very little game and very opulent. Decanted and let breathe for an hour, then drank over another hour. Very dense and opulent attack on the palate, lots of raspberries and blackberries, spice, flowers, milk chocolate. Great structure, excellent balance mid palate and a long gratifying and powerful finish. Very refined in my view and not brawny at all.

It's all about opening the right bottle and this was the case with this wine. Very dark ruby color, youthful, nose of leather, cassis, black currants and pencil lead. Decanted and aerated for an hour then drank over another hour with friends. Much more elegant than previous bottles but still tight and masculine palate of dark fruits, cassis and leather. Strong acidity signaling this wine is built to age 20 years before being approachable. Decent finish with strong tannins coated by the powerful fruit. A classic wine with a modern twist.

Golden yellow color. Cork didn't pop with a bang so I got worried the bottle would be flat. None of that. Tiny vivacious bubbles moving up from bottom of the glass. Nose of butterscotch, yellow apple, pineapple and marzipan fully reflected on the palate. Decent acidity but from this bottle it seemed this DP is ready to be drunk. Nice long burgundian finish. Very nice indeed.

Wow what a nice discovery of this brilliant pomerol starting last summer when I had a brilliant 89. The 08 in contrast was much less evolved but definitely as enjoyable to drink. Blackish crimson color, opened and decanted for an hour than drank two bottles over 2 hours. Nose of blackberries, rhubarb, spice cake and black tea fully reflected on an opulent palate. Very powerful yet velvety, powerful wine with a long tannic finish which is likely to evolve into a beauty in 10 years or so. Beautiful!

Finally an elegant Talbot. Dark ruby red, nose of opulent dark berries, perfumed cassis and old leather. On the palate very gentle and surprisingly refined, great vivacity mid palate with the acidity a perfect complement to opulent fruit, and a decently long finish ending with cola, tea and spice fully coated tannins. Very nice indeed and with legs to age.

Deep ruby red color drank from magnum. Decanted and aerated for an hour and drank over 2. Initial nose of dark red currant and cassis, lots of smokiness which dissipated after an hour or so. On the palate very mineral almost saline quality to the wine, lots of gravel and glycerin coating the cassis and dark red fruits. After two hours in the decanter the wine began to open up and provably was best after 3 hours of aeration. Mid palate very dynamic, great balance and decent power, some leather and pencil lead notes. Tannic at the outside with a short dry finish but after 3 hours the tannins softened and the finish lengthened. Overall a very nice wine.

Intact cork and deep ruby red color. Hardly any bricking and some sediments in bottle. Decanted and aerated for an hour than drank over two hours. The first bottle started fading after 2 hours whereas the second one kept going. At the start a very masculine nose of earth, leather with notes of black pepper, graphite and cassis dying to get out. With some time in decanter, the black currants and cassis came out. On the palate less austere after aeration, gentle entry with good weight and acidity mid palate, some crushed rocks mixing with dark fruits and cassis and a decent finish. Well matured St Estephe. Drink and enjoy.

Wow lots of brawn here with a fresh and powerful Pauillac. Dark ruby red color, opened and decanted and aerated for about an hour and drank over 90 minutes. Strong nose of cassis, leather, raspberries and pencil lead. On the palate very lively entry, all cassis and red fruit mid palate with excellent acidity, minerality, some inkiness to it, and great balance. Very powerful and long tannic finish. Wow this wine has lots of mileage left in it. At least a couple of decades. But sometimes I get impatient. The last bottle I drank from my ex chateau case dates back six years.

I always get mixed feelings about this wine. I didn’t decant it enough as I was at a restaurant and it failed to take on the body it typically displays after at least two hours in the decanter. A little thin and raisiny as a result, with the cassis dwarfed by the wine’s dustyness but still quite complex mid palate and a nice finish. Two more bottles which I will properly decant next tasting.

The score keeps improving in tandem with the wine’s progression. Deep ruby red, viscous body, nose of dark red berries, blackberries and mint. Decanted and aerated for about 90 minutes but this wine clearly needs more time to open up. Deep crimson color and very youthful looking, a very exotic nose of spices, old leather, prunes and dark fruits. On the palate quite powerful, masculine, very strong backbone, a hint of herbaceousness but nothing too pronounced. Good balance and structure and a nice tannic finish. Enjoyable now but should evolve over the next 5-10 years.

Finally after a few over jammy bottles I stumbled on a very good bottle. Ruby color with bricking throughout pointing to the evolution of the wine. Decanted and aerated for 90 minutes and drank over another 90 minutes. The wine clearly needed more air. At first the nose was dominated by dust and leather with dark fruits struggling to emerge. With time, the nose became spicier, the dust dissipated, the leather softened to reveal dark fruits, cassis, iron and crushed stones. On the palate quite dry with great minerality and cassis mid palate, tannins soft but very present and a very long spicy finish. Not the most complex and requires 3 hours in decanter but a very enjoyable wine at the price point.

Lovely lovely Pichon Baron and amongst my favorite 89s. Evolved and complex nose of creamy cassis, blackberries and dark red fruits intermixed with sweet spices and toffee. Deep ruby red color with bricking around the edges but the wine looks 10 years younger at least. Medium to full bodied, complex palate finishing long and velvety on notes of dark or bitter chocolate. Decanted and aerated for about 90 minutes and drank over 2 hours. Lovely mature crimson color with bricking at the edges and quite evolved. Nose of cassis, candied raspberries, blackberries and spice cake. on the palate dense entry and powerful lift with dark red and black fruits mid palate, very vivacious hardly reflective of almost 3 decades of age. Tannins still quite powerful signaling a couple more decades of evolution needed for this beauty and a long spicy finish. One of the most enjoyable VS I've had and a vintage that had been missing from my cellar and palate.

Maybe I am not leaving this wine long enough in the decanter or maybe the wine does not need decanting. I have noticed this with some of the older VS vintages and I am still perplexed as this beauty opened up with an outstanding nose of sweet blackberries, candied raspberries, blueberries, nutmeg, and flowers. Aging permeating the ruby color of this wine. On the palate very velvety and decent power, good acidity and complex structure mid palate but with the fruit waning a bit, and a super long and multi-layered finish and a touch of sweetness to the fruit. Medium to full bodied but I need to try a second bottle to firm up my opinion of this wine.

Beautiful and intense nose of perfumed cassis, spices, earth. Deep blackish color, decanted for a couple of hours before drinking. On entry very dense on the palate, I can only imagine how intense Les Forts and the Grand Vin will be. Very opulent with a slight austerity and masculinity, great power mid palate, fruit - dark red and black, cassis, decent length in finish with tannins quite present finishing with tones of leather, earth and spice. Quite impressive for a third wine in terms of complexity. Two cases left!
