If I tasted this blind, I would call it Amarone

Going, going, gone.... Our streak with the Il Colle library releases comes to an end. The previous bottles - '78, '79 & '85 - were all still vibrant and interesting. Regrettably, this '83 was pretty much devoid of fruit and any interesting tertiary aromas/flavors. All that was left was acidity and alcohol. R.I.P.

OK, for $15 at Trader Joe's, I didn't REALLY expect this to perform like a real Amarone. However, I did hope it would bear at least a passing resemblance to a drinkable Ripasso. What I ended up getting was almost undrinkable. Not sure how a winemaker could cause Corvina to taste like a bad, cheap Cabernet. Stil trying to scrape the tannins off my tongue and to pick the oak splinters out of my teeth.

If you are tempted to buy this, do yourself a favor and buy a decent, cheap Ripasso instead -- Masi, Cesari, Tedeschi, etc.
