Perfect cork and level. Can't believe how closed this is upon popping. Hints of red cherries and lead pencil starts to float out the glass after 15 minutes, but tannins still big on the palate which covers out all the fruit underneath.

Decanted for 2 hours, sweet nose of blackcurrents, cassis, mushrooms, leather and a hint of violets. Medium body but silky smooth on the palate with fading tannins. medium-ish finish but seems to not have the typical strength of a Mouton (maybe bottle variation?). Perhaps will not try another bottle any time soon, still have quite some life left in it.

Dead closed after popping the cork, muted nose and tannins as thick as a brick wall on the palate, this boy is still sleeping.

After an hour, nose start to show some delightful aromas of red cherries, berries, liquorice and creamy pistachio. Tannins are still going strong, covering most of the fruit on the palate. Hopefully will open up after decanting at the restaurant.

Still showing nothing on the palate during dinner, plug the cork back in and brought it home....

After 1 week, finally starting to show its true colours, beautiful nose of cherries and raspberries, fading tannins on the palate but with lots of bright red fruits, medium finish. Conclusion: wine is completely closed up and is in a deep sleep, will not pop another bottle within the next 2 years.

Opened for 1 hour before drinking and drank over 3 hours. Top quality for a village. Sweet nose of cherries and red berries, with a mild hint of chocolate and leathery flavours as the wine starts to open up. A little bit weak on the palate with a short finish and starts to fade out as the night ends.

Almost 10 years since I last tried this bottle, amazed at how much more opened up it is on the nose. Beautiful nose of violets, blackcurrent and some prunes. Quite lacking on the palate though, showing signs of the tough vintage. Tannins definitely melted away so its in a good phase to drink right now. Can't see it improving though. Drink away.

Opened and drank over the night:

After pulling the cork, nose is muted and big tannins on the palate, barely drinkable.

After sitting 1 hour in the glass, nose starting to develop dark chocolate and blackcurrents and cherries. Tannins softening but still give the impression that it is a very young wine.

The typical blackcurrent and cassis flavour start developing after 3 hours, with a hint of mint and marshmallow on the background, quite sweet nose and a medium finish. Quite enjoyable with my favourite Bordeaux elements coming out.

Will hold and try my next bottle in 2 years' time

opened for 3 hours, the nose is amazing.... smells like toffee, peanut butter, prunes, keep smelling and more keeps coming back. Quite smooth on the palate, hints of heat, not a huge wine but could go on forever. Keep for a few more years and try again.

Bottle bought in Fuligni. Super sour and nothing on the nose when the cork was just popped. Into decanted it goes, after 4 hours....

Sweet nose of berries, licorice, plums, a bit of tobacco and dried fruits. Quite silky on the palate with a medium finish. Sourness has melted into the fruit making it a pleasant drink.

From 375. Threw in the decanter for 2 hours. Starting to show a stronger nose, filled with violets, spices, prunes and roasted beef. Beautiful tannins, round and polished, with a bit of heat coming back from the back of my throat after swallowing and a lengthy finish. Great potential to be better yet and go well go down as one of the best Cos ever.

2 more hours in the decanter. Exploding nose of violets and prunes, cherries and milk chocolate. Very velvety on the palate, actually the texture starts to feel like a very nice chocolate drink. Wow!!

Just popped and poured a little bit to try it out, borderline undrinkable.... HUGE tannins and basically no nose, did I kill a baby before it was born? Going to leave it there for a couple hours before trying another sip....

Opening up a lot better after 3 hours, starting to generate a nose of cassis, blackberries, leather and roasted beef. Still hard on the palate but the tannins gradually fading away to reveal its full body and a not to short finish (~20-30s). Best effort of Duhart I've tasted and will not be easily approachable for another 10 years at least.

Pop and poured in a decanter at restaurant. Immediately some great smell flowing from the glass, with nose of berries, leather and toast/baked bread. Smooth tannins which has not entirely faded away. Much more opened after an hour or so, and went really well with the duck and cheese dishes. However, started to fade away after about 3 hours.

Right after opening:

Quite mute, only showing hints of nose and a little bitter on the palate, so decided to pour the wine into the decanter

After half an hour:

Opened brilliantly, great nose of butterscotch, peanut butter, apple and stonefruit, together with a hint of lemon and petrol. Quite smooth on the palate, and going well with the kind crab and the red pasta (surprise surprise!!).

Still yet to reach its peak and will keep the remaining bottles on hold for a couple years at least.

fragrant was sipping out of the cork whilst I was still unscrewing got my saliva drooling for this wine. Beautiful nose of berries and a hint of mushroom and some meat once the wine is poured, took a sip and.... felt like infanticide... it was bitter, with big tannins, wow its tight, left in glass to breath......

3 hours later

much better, but still not quite ready, but showing much more on the palate and the nose is getting out more, will wait for a few more hours and see....

6 hours later

starting to be enjoyable, tannins soften on the palate, can feel the structure of the wine and the nose expanded to some chocolate, toffee and vanilla. Will stick my remaining bottles in the cellar for at least 5 years before trying another

Chateau Palmer dinner: The smell of prunes and violets more compelling than the 09, with hints of berries. On the palate it is concentrated with big tannins and a finish which lasts for a whooping 60s+. It will be at least 10 years before the wine can be approachable.

Chateau Palmer dinner: 2nd go with this vintage. Surprisingly young for a 12 year old wine, which is maybe on par with the 05 and 09. Nose of blackcurrents, plum, smoke and leather. Nice tannins on the palate with gorgeous ripe fruits and very long finish. Looking forward to tasting it again in 5 years' time.

Chateau Palmer dinner: Highlight of the night. Powerful nose of cherry, tobacco and violet with hints of chocolate. Still going strong on the palate, silky smooth. This is elegance, Palmer at its peak. Amazingly the tannins are still there and the finish is long. 1966 Palmer? Doesn't feel that old at all, and surely will last for at least 5 more years. Brilliant!!

Chateau Palmer dinner: Beautiful nose of sweet cassis, berries, licorice and violets. Incredibly concentrated and thick with immense tannins, just like a berry-flavoured chewing gum on the palate. Will take a long time to be ready but will live for years.

p.s. evolving and opening up quickly after half an hour in the glass, generating intense violet and vanilla. Still rich and supple on the palate. A joy to taste!!

Drink: 2015 onwards

An amazing nose of sweet fruits, cherries, berries, strawberries blew straight out the bottle right after the cork is pulled. It transformed into some leathery, green pepperish and black curranty smell after about 2 hours in the decanter and glass, the palate is not that impressive though, but this is still a really young wine and given time can develop into something. Would have given it 95+ if it shows more on the palate, 2 points off for that.

Wine started to evolved after sitting in glass for about half an hour, giving scents of cherries, cassis, caramel and coffee, it is big and smooth on the palate with a lingering finish.... very typical long-living Mouton which is still a baby and will definitely last for at least 20+ years

Dad's 60th birthday. Fantastic wine!! Smoky, earthy nose at first, evolving into violets, tomatoes, currants and hints of berries. Silky smooth on the palate, wine just "slipped" down my throat.... and the finish, my God!! I can still feel the after taste a minute after I swallowed, great stuff!! Still a bit of tannins, and a tiny bit worse than the bottle I had a couple years ago, can't say what is missing hence the 99 pt instead of perfect score, looking forward to trying my next bottle.

Pop and drink, the aromas was slipping out of the bottle even before the cork was fully removed........ In glass, lovely nose of leather, tobacco, mushrooms and blackcurrents, a smell of mid-autumn forest to summarise, still have this big round tannins on the palate, with a medium finish, truly enjoyable wine. Wine is so matching with the steak I had, +2 points for that.

Opened for 2 hours, beautiful and complex nose of blackcurrents, cassis and raspberries with hints of mushrooms, graphite, lead and some pepper. On the palate it is a bit simple, and it still needs a few more years to show its true nature. But still, a very good effort from Pichon for a not too good vintage.

Tasted together at dinner with the 90 Haut Brion. This is has a completely different style. Nose was full of berries, blackcurrants, vanilla and lots of oak. The body was round and full. My first time with the Opus One and I think this wine is over-oaked. Not really a favourite at the table and the consensus is that the Haut Brion is in a completely different level.

Wine brought to dinner by friend. Colour was brownish-red with orange rims, wine looks older than 20 years old and I initially thought it could be from the 80s. Good strong nose of dark fruits, tobacco, minerals and earth. The texture was medium with round tannins and a long finish. Tasted this before but this bottle seems to be a little bit different. Maybe there is something wrong with the storage? Very good wine overall.

Opened at dinner last night, from memory. Decanted for half an hour, then double decanted for another half hour. Wine is still very young, and needs to be in decanter for at least another hour until it starts to show up. Good nose of red berries, and currants with a hint of mushroom and coffee. The texture of the wine is quite thick, which went quite nicely with duck and pigeon. Still a lot of tannins and needs at least 2 hours of decanting before it can be drunk at the moment.

Still a young wine. Nose was very closed at first, after an hour in the decanter, starts to show some blackcurrent, cherry and a hint of chocolate and oak. Strong tannins in the palate, with the same current and chocolate flavour but lacks the strong, rich St. Julien flavour in the palate, though there is also a surprisingly strong cherry flavour aftertaste. Should drink well for a coming 10+ years, will hold it for at least 2 years before I try another bottle.

Upon opening, huge nose of black fruits - currants, blackberries; cassis, tobacco. A typical St. Julien wine. Still have light tannins but it is surprisingly rich in the mouth, medium finish. The wine is near its peak and should be able to maintain for another 3-4 years. Honestly it is better than I expect it to be though.
