March 21, 2020 - The wine had a slight touch of TCA. It made the nose funky. It was drinkable, with enough sweet fruit to make it palatable. Very spicy on the finish. It still had substantial structure for a 1990.

August 22, 2019 - Gorgeous. Lush, great nose, fruit, right at its peak.

March 10, 2019 - Fully mature, this is gorgeous. The ripe, juicy, sweet, peppery, earthy, garrigue and kirsch is a blast. The wine is still concentrated, lush, ripe and juicy with a strong hint of spicebox in the finish. Full-bodied, round and showy, this is a beautiful example of fully mature Chateauneuf du Pape!

September 27, 2018 - Really lovely. Soft black cherry, licorice, earthiness, garrigue and, ahem, barnyard, with a hint of sweetness on the finish to offset the savory elements. Surprisingly deft at this age, silky smooth, concentrated and yet weightless. Very long on the finish. This has aged very well.

August 14, 2017 - Some Eclectic, Spectacular Wines; 8/13/2017-8/14/2017 (Santa Ynez Valley): What an awesome CdP. A VA funk quickly blew off, revealing an enticing and savory nose of meat juice, olive and balsam. Beautifully textured on the palate, with black olives dominating the captivating blend of black fruit and pepper. A singular wine, unmistakably of its place. Faded a bit after two hours or so. Still at peak but with a limited window once opened, I think.

June 12, 2017 - Bring a Very Good Red . . . Again (Tilia): Medium-bodied, nice to drink a CDP that isn't over the top, but this seems like it might have faded a bit. While I enjoyed it, it didn't excel into the exceptional range to me.

June 8, 2017 - A Mix of Big Name CDP and Cab Blends (Tilia, Mpls): Medium plus red color with a clear 3mm margin. PNP, excellent fill, soft cork with only 3-4mm of color at the base. This bottle was pretty advanced. The nose has a high toned dried Provencal herb character with garrigue and fruit cake, anise seed, and clove with dried red fruits in the background. The fruit on the palate has faded more so and leaves something of a void with some alcohol creeping in its stead. Dried cherry and fruitcake, kirsch, spice, plum, clove and licorice. Medium bodied. I can't say whether this is representative of all bottles at this point, but I'd be checking in on any remaining bottles. 88 to 89pts.

October 29, 2016 - The wine is nicely aromatic giving away that it is primarily Grenache. On the palate, lots of kirsch, licorice, garrigue, black olives, and earthiness that provides a lot of pleasure.

I had difficulty getting out the cork as it was very soft. But the fill level was very good and apparently the cork did its job over the years.

December 3, 2015 - Earthy, barnyard scents are complicated by the kirsch, spice, garrigue and exotic plummy notes. Still fresh, silky and loaded with sweet, ripe cherries, this is at absolute peak and should be enjoyed over the next few years.

August 8, 2015 - Had not the brilliance of the last bottle. Silk and smooth .but a rather medium body with a nice finish. Nothing wrong with this mature beauty , but it is clearly fading. Drink up !!!!!!
