May 28, 2020 - Still drinking nice but don't see it improving. Drank over 3 days and held steady with crisp acidity on the first day moving to honey over the next 2. Drank alongside the Les Vaupulans which was oaky on the first day but mellowed and was really lovely on day 2-3.

March 21, 2020 - Really nice, still bright acid backbone with complex herb, citrus, honey palate. Near end of life in my opinion unless you like really aged white.

February 5, 2020 - Still drinking great. Wonderful minerality. Crisp with great acidity.

July 8, 2019 - Light gold color with nice viscosity. Minimal aroma. Flavor profiles change with temp variations. Drink not too cold or warm. Creamy but slightly over-ripe grapefruit flavors. Chalk and saline on the lengthy finish. On the decline.

    March 23, 2019 - Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.

There was a bit of funk upon opening, but that blew away in short order.
Very well-integrated. No rough edges whatsoever.
The tastes were a bit muted (hence the 89) but still on target. A little richer than many Chablis, which was fine with me.

Although I see no reason to panic, I see not reason to hold.

(VIEILLES VIGNES Fourchaume Vrignaud) Chablis Dear Friends, This is our annual Vrignaud Chablis Vieilles Vignes offer and it’s always one of the top price/value small production 1er examples on the market (with a bark far in excess of it’s pricing bite). The wine has limited distribution in Europe and almost none abroad - the regular bottling of Fourchaume is more widely distributed. With the limited availability of this wine, we feel fortunate to receive the lion’s share of their production every year but, as the wine’s popularity has grown (thanks to Allen Meadows), allocations continue to be squeezed. In other words, if you have any interest in this wine, please let us know at your earliest convenience. I’ve penned the argument over the past 4-5 years that Chablis now represents the heart of Chardonnay, an honor that previously belonged to the Cote de Beaune. With climate change and the slow and sure movement of elevated heating degree days further north every year, what used to be considered “classic” in a region such as Meursault now finds a home in the environs of Preuses. Chablis die-hards may complain that their prized mouthful of bile and rock has given way to more sappy extract and weighty terroir but there is no denying that Chablis (once isolated and treated like a second class citizen) is now a region of proactive vintners - those that dictate the fate of Burgundy, not the opposite. In the past, many of the top names in Chablis would wait for trends to develop and originate around Beaune first - now they are creating those trends and the ripple has elevated a handful of Chablis producers to an elite list of the most powerful and influential in all of Burgundy. Organically grown and vinified, Vrignaud's Chablis Vieilles Vignes 1er hails from a tiny old-vine parcel in Fourchaume – it is the pride and joy of the Vrignaud family and the envy of many rival vintners. Over the years, they’ve had a rash of somewhat hostile take-over offers for this land (from the Chablis elite) but somehow they’ve managed to hold onto what is arguably the finest parcel in all of Fourchaume. 100% hand-tended and picked with multiple passes in the vineyard to insure the utmost in purity and terroir expression, the famed sea-bed soils of Chablis make their presence known in this wine as it seems to capture an extra dimension of fruit pith and saline-stained minerality that marks the Chardonnay of this region with its signature aromatics and flavor spectrum: Normally priced between a 1er and a Grand Cru Chablis (in the range), we have the VV today at the same tariff as the regular Fourchaume sells for in the US. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED at this price up to 36/person until we run out. This parcel is directly from the Domaine cellar with impeccable provenance 2009 Domaine Vrignaud Chablis Fourchaume “Vieilles Vignes” 1er - (compare at in the US for the VV, in Europe) Please note: Due to the plummeting dollar, the margin on this item is razor-thin (it was almost impossible to keep the under tariff we’ve offered the past few vintages). For this reason, I ask that you please order in multiples of 3 to help the warehouse pack more efficiently (3, 6, 12, etc). To order: nicki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart from Chablis – it will arrive in the late spring (please check OARS for local pick-up after July 1st). It will ship during the Fall shipping season. Drink 2014-2019+ Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS?
