February 5, 2023 - Yes Maybe i pushed the limits on this one a little with 22 years on her.
Color was a very sexy deep gold.
Lovely nose of Honeysuckle, dried apricots and a tad musky with a hint of lanolin.
This was as clean as it gets, broad entry in the mouth that funnels into lime and lemoncurd acids, expansive but balanced , that one aged very nice, only a short finish comes and blemishes the ensemble but for he price of entry i can't complain. solid 91 points.
October 5, 2018 - Lives up to it’s reputation as an age-worthy wine gaining huge depth and richness over the years. Well worth storing a few bottles and forgetting about them.
May 27, 2017 - corked or just kepyt a bit too long
December 16, 2014 - Quite a pleasant wine, but it feels it is at a turning point where maybe greatness awaits. All the secondary elements which make these aged marsannes such a beguiling drink are present, if a little subdued, in this wine now, including lanolin and kero aromas, honeysuckle, iced tea and almond flavours and a slightly oily texture. However it also retains a noticeable bit of the slightly bitter primary grapefruit/citrus pith flavour that puts me off the younger wines.
I reckon that a bit more development over the next couple of years should see that primary fruit integrate more fully benefitting the wine, particularly as the secondary flavours become more pronounced. Not sure it will ever rival the greatness, IMHO, of say a '96, but time will tell.
February 15, 2011 - Drinking well as a 10yr old but starting to get to the back end of the window. Developed yellow-orange in colour, typical of this wine, wine some kero, oil, marmalade driving the nose (albeit quite mild in intensity). As per usual a subtle drink to taste with citrus and lemon. Old kero too and soft sliver of acid. Always great QPR for a general cellaring wine but it IS subtle.
January 7, 2011 - Just on the edge of it's window I'd say. Honey and almond. Nice long. Thick palette. Worth the cellaring effort at the price !
April 2, 2010 - Still quite light after 9 years I bought this at auction so it must have been stored well. Nose of honeysuckle, butter, vanilla and eucalyptus.
Good height but not that big.
Mouth is quite thin with lemon and lime.
Long finish is clean of butter, orange peel with good acid.
Still too young. Amazingly preserved and I estimate it needs another 5 yrs to peak
January 18, 2009 - Slightly oxidized
October 1, 2008 - Still going strong. Can't get better value-for-money-to-cellar than this.
January 28, 2007 - Oxidized. I despise cork!
