April 19, 2024 - This pours a cloudy medium garnet. The nose is fully tertiary and very mature. Aromas are of leather, dried cherries, fruit leather, chopped walnuts, dried grapefruit, ramen broth, mulch, and balsamic. The palate enters on fruit leather with medium minus tannin and medium plus acid. There is a muddyness to the mid-palate that I just couldn't get past here, which held this back for me. For what its worth, other tasters at this table appreciated this far more than me.

January 30, 2022 - Elders @ Eric's: First impression is maderized but there's a lot of intrigue here; tobacco, brown sugar, tangy citrus sweetness. Someone suggested an old Rioja with a splash of Terrantez thrown in and I think that captures it well. FWIW, my note from 10 years ago suggests this is evolving pretty slowly at this point in time: "Caramelly, burnt sugar, madeira-like nose with potpourri and orange peel lending complexity."

November 14, 2019 - Black figs, dried cherries and roasted meat. Stored perfectly, ullage was in the lower part of the neck. 65 years old but close to dying so drink up if you still have this in your cellar. Consumed with duck confit -- it was a perfect combination.

October 19, 2019 - From a perfect bottle. What a beauty! cedar, dried strawberries, smooth and very very long. Amazing!

February 8, 2017 - The 1954 isn't over the hill but yet already drowned.
