Community Tasting Notes 13

December 13, 2023 - Nose: spices, dark fruits, nutty, smoke, leaves, menthol
Notes: Tasted together with the Charmes Chambertin 2009. Quite a dry palate with limited aftertaste in the beginning. As time went by the nose began to develop nicely. Unfortunately the Clos Vougeot does seem a little heavily extracted and probably lacks a bit of balance while the aftertaste shows a bit more acidity than I desire. I think we can probably wait 3-4 years to see this wine develop further.

June 16, 2019 - Dark creamy dense fruit, yet a touch compacted and somewhat linear. Potential is there to broaden and gain more complexity. Solid and quite good now for depth of fruit & texture, just leaves me wanting more finesse. Clearly improved with air.

October 12, 2016 - Olivier Bernstein Dinner Hosted by Wilson Daniels (Acadia - Chicago IL): From magnum. Open two hours before serving. Started off with some sulfur/ reduction notes that started blowing off after 30-45 minutes in glass. Clearly very ripe with lots of concentrated black fruit. More weight and depth came through with more time in glass as well. Certainly very good, but less exciting to me than the 2012, 2013 or 2014 also tasted tonight.

October 11, 2016 - Deep, robust dark fruit. Almost new world in style with more underlying structure. Certainly not austere and not a delicate wine.

September 16, 2015 - Close to Clos: Chocolate, ash, pepper and earth. Bright acidity, the fruit is quite delicate but it has depth and complexity to the flavour. Barely budged since I tried it 3 years ago, it is still excellent and should get even better.
