March 22, 2024 - My advice to you is that you should do whatever it takes to get a bottle of this - cheat, murder, embezzle, prostitute yourself, declare a love of basketball or, even, respect for religion (yes, that is how low you may go). If need be, foreswear Onanism and porn. Just do whatever you must. Then backslide once you have procured this. Revert to type. Any fool can progress - it is regression that marks the truly deep.

The cork is nice and filthy with mould, it breaks (of course) about 1/3 of the way but the rest comes out cleanly enough. It matters not as the level is excellent and the wine pours with some brick, but also, astoundingly, ruby. No brown or khaki tones.

In the first hour this is a rather elegant but incredibly delicious essay in earth, leather, spice and clove and the sweetest dark fruits - pastille like. I want to fall to my knees and thank someone or something for this wine. The mouthfeel is gorgeous - velvet at first then fine, sweet, tannins to close and a wine of extreme length.

In the second hour the wine builds body and depth. You could easily think Shiraz because of the depth but the wine retains poise and lightness of foot, not to mention some strawberry fruit that mark it out as Pinot.

I am lost in this wine. It is easily the most intoxicating, memorable wine I have had in many a year.

I confess that I have tended to deprecate Faiveley in terms of great wine; I have dismissed them as negotiants, though it turns out this is the smaller part of their work. Silly me.

I don't know what else to say; I am in the presence of greatness. Clive Coates knew a bit about wine and he thought likewise. In memory of Karl Wallinger - 'Thank you world'.

July 26, 2021 - Light earth and some mocha; light cranberry-mocha-raspberry; some alc on the palate; coarse; semi-concentrated fruit with smooth layered finish.

April 24, 2021 - Initially brooding dark black fruits with a lot of structure. Opened up quite nicely in the glass with time. Showing off more fruit and spicy nuance. Last sip was the best, a very good sign. Made in a traditional old world style with lots of structure, but bold fruit holds it well. Opened for Aaron Pott
