Community Tasting Notes 10

December 18, 2021 - Amber in color, the strong perfume is loaded with notes of butter, burnt caramel, smoke butterscotch. apricot jam and orange rind. The wine is surprisingly concentrated, fresh, silky long, bright, acidic and sweet, but not overly so, in the finish you find burnt toast with caramel, pineapple and candied green apples.

December 10, 2018 - I adore orange-peel scented Yquem and this surely fits the bill better than most. Loads of orange marmalade, parchment, smoke, and that slightly savory je-ne-sais-quoi that can sometimes be found in fully mature Sauternes. So fresh and vital; I love how it's muscled but still maintains a fine silhouette without being encumbered by overly-heavy botrytis. Sublime. Re-corked at the chateau in 1990.

December 17, 2017 - Mahogany in color, the combination of chocolate covered orange, creme de caramel, butterscotch, caramel, dried apricot and green apple pie blows you away. Pure silk in texture, the wine cascades over your palate, drenching your senses for over 60 seconds. Lacking the same level of freshness found in the 37, or 45, this is still about as good as a wine gets. Utterly profound, the wine was effortless to drink. Young, tasters do not often get the different between Yquem and other Sauternes, especially when price is a factor. But as the wine gets more than 50 years of age, it blossoms into one of the world's great tasting experiences.

May 13, 2017 - Apricot, moderating sweetness, and resolved botrytis notes. Just starting to show an old paper element to the finish.

November 14, 2015 - The 1928 d'Yquem is a very special bottle of wine, with a lovely bouquet of bitter honey, caramel, grilled apricots, vanilla and torrefied scents that verge on coffee bean. On the palate the wine is beautifully complete and detailed, with a firm core of acidity and lovely texture.
