March 25, 2013 - Bright ruby color with lighter rim. Nose: bottled black cherry, ripe strawberry, and black plum with accents of rosemary, lavender, pie crust, red rose, hot cinnamon candy, and licorice. Medium body on the palate: ripe strawberry, black raspberry, and red cherry framed by hot cinnamon candy, rosemary, licorice, crushed rock, black tea, and a hint of bay leaf. Medium acidity. Moderate earthy/herb tannins. Lingering licorice, cherry skin, crushed rock, black tea, and bay leaf on the moderate/long finish. Strikes a rare balance between Rhone earth/herb tones and California fruit. Very complex, loads of varietal character, and extremely delicious. Drink over the next 3-4 years.
