August 22, 2019 - From the most variable case in my collection - this one was at least half decent if not quite at the 93pts (noted) of the best. We draw a veil over the two (to date) flawed bottles!!
Mature appearance. Very precise damson and cassis fruit with hints of strap, liquorice and charred oak. Excellent but a bit too hollow to lift it into the higher echelons.
Usual recommendation: drink up unless you want to chance it (2030 max) and always with a sub at the ready.

June 18, 2019 - A glorious bottle. I've had mixed experiences with late 80s Ducru, and sometimes the bottles are a little musty. This bottle was singing from get-go. Lovely nose with pure cassis and black raspberry, charcoal and a touch of leather. Perfectly mature Bordeaux with ample fruit. Lovely on the palate, and densely textured, still some firm tannic grip on the very long finish. This bottle was drinking just brilliantly now.

April 15, 2019 - Even the non-corked bottles from the 1982-1994 era at Ducru Beaucaillou can be highly variable. I've rated this as highly as 94 in the past, but this bottle showed rubbery notes obscuring the gingery, cedary, sandalwood nose below. The build is a blocky and roughly hewn - not typical Ducru Beaucaillou elegance and not a prime example of the '90.
