Community Tasting Notes 6

March 20, 2016 - Opened one hour in advance. Berry/herb aroma with a bit of dishwater. Vibrant red currant, citrus and mineral flavors. Earth and sweet cherry in the lingering finish.

Exceptional, with that austere herb/floral Loire profile that I love, plus forward, attractive flavors that complement rather than obliterate that foundation. Drinking beautifully right now.

July 26, 2015 - very cool. Very odd. Pineau D'Aunis.

April 13, 2012 - funky, bright red fruit, light bodied, low tannin, a bit turbid; very pleasant, if not complex, wine.

April 21, 2011 - This is Loire naturel wine from the get go. Nose full of brett, light color, and juicy. Need some oxygenation to pass through the funk.
Distinctive peppery taste of Pineau d'aunis.
FYI, the label is from paintings of the wine maker(Robinot)

March 27, 2011 - Pineau D'Aunis is my favorite weird Loire grape. Apparently, it had its heyday in the 13th century, but may be having a bit of a resurgence these days. It's fruity and light-bodied with some surprising white wine flavors like pineapple and grapefruit.

This one, young, fresh, unoaked, smells like a box of freshly sharpened pencils on opening, and tastes like strawberries and something tropical. As it evolved in the glass, it got fruitier and developed some leather-y undertones. My main problem with this wine is that, while tasty, I haven't yet discovered a really good pairing for it.

As a side note, this producer really should think about using less silly names for his wines and going with a classier label -- almost didn't buy this one because it looked and sounded so cheesy. Glad I went with the wine store rec and tried it.
