Community Tasting Notes 5

September 28, 2011 - Interesting combo of grenache and pinot. I could taste both varietals but it was not jarring. On the palate, cranberry, red plum and spicy notes, with a mineral undertone. Medium body, medium finish. I would definitely repurchase.

September 10, 2011 - Wow - very interesting wine. Not what I expected at all. Bought on a whim (good price point) and because it is a French wine that breaks the rules, and well, we're in (and half of us is from) California and we like to break wine rules. This blend is 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Granache. Pouring into the glass it looks like a light bodied Pinot, slightly more brown in color like a French Burgundy, rather than a redder, fruitier colored California Pinot. Interestingly you can smell both the two grape variatals on the nose. The Grenache has this slight balsamic smell, the pinot is black berry fruit. Its' tight on the palate, could probably use another year or two to open up and develop further, though its light in its tannins so its a small window where it will peak. A little less berry in the mouth than the nose. There is a light peppery finish at the front of the palate and a more fuller, softer mouthfeel than a straight Pinot Noir. It's a interesting little wine for the price point although it might be a little thin for some. This wine was un-oaked but I actually think could probably have benefited from some time in low toast American style oak. Nice. Different. Interesting.

February 12, 2011 - Dark red in color. At first, this wine was a bit tight on the nose and thin on the palate. On the second glass, however, the wine really opened up with a nice bouquet and ripe, bold flavors of black cherry and currant with a slightly tannic follow through. Worth grabbing a bottle at this price.

January 13, 2011 - First time I've had pineapple aroma from a red wine. Interesting and unique (for me) blend of Pinot & Grenache. J didn't care for it. I thought it was interesting.
