Community Tasting Notes 5

February 29, 2012 - Very similar to last note. Slightly more pinot funk. Needs about 1/2-1 hr to have some funk blow off. Still doing great.

September 9, 2011 - Same as my last note. The "info" on this wine below is incorrect. It is NOT 100% pinot. Passetoutgrains is a blend of gamay and pinot. Typically, its 70% gamay and 30% pinot.

July 23, 2011 - Tasted this blind and guessed that it was a Gamay. Was very surprised when it was revealed to be a 2008 Burgundy...didn't have the spice component that I've gotten used to with many 2008s. This was juicy, accessible and uncomplicated.

July 23, 2011 - "Non-Baller" Wines, Take 5 (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): color of strawberry kool-aid. cranberries, cola on the nose along with some beef and charcoal. the palate is much different. soft tannins, cool red fruit, cherry candy. i guessed this as a pinot with about 5-10 years on it, and was surprised to see this was an 08. a fun, unique pinot, one that should probably be drunk in the short term.

July 1, 2011 - red fruit on nose, little funk. Strongly acidic on tasting, earthy, cola flavors, red and some black fruit. A little thin, and a very short finish. This fits my palette perfectly, it really reminds me of a wine version of diet coke (without the sweetness). I like it, but the thinness and acidity will turn some people off.
