December 17, 2017 - Really late lunch – blind esoteric and not so esoteric wines at Q by Peter Chang (Q by Peter Chang - Bethesda, Maryland): Slightly oxidized.

March 22, 2015 - Powerful nose with lots of secondary characteristics alongside orchard fruit and spice. Good weight to the palate. Loads of succulent fruit yet dry, saline, and lifted. This kept changing over the course of the night and held up in the glass for hours.

March 12, 2011 - Magnum Madness 2011! (Marshall's place): Really intriguing deep golden color. Impressive deep aromas of honey, some pineapple, and a certain oily notion. Great, deep structure on the palate, with some honeycomb and some earthiness. I also get a nice petrol note which carries into some apricots. The texture and richness of the mouth feel are wonderful. Really nice acids permeate my scenes on the finish. Awesome length and delicious richness as the acid carries complexities deep into the finish. This evolves impressively for 40 seconds. The window on this is certainly open, but it will likely continue to go for some time into the future.

July 21, 2010 - Rich and complex, with some strong white pepper flavors overlaying pineapple and pear. Oily texture and mouthfeel. Basically dry with the rich fruit giving an initial illusion of sweetness, but the finish is dry and more salty than sweet.

July 20, 2010 - 14% ABV. Medium gold in the glass. Slight petrol nose. Complicated oily smell. Rich, medium bodied with some more petrol and something like pineapple, but not quite that ripe - vaguely tropical. Savory finish. Paired surprisingly well with a salad course.

January 13, 2010 - Last tasted 3 years ago. Sorry this is my last bottle. At peak maturity. Deep gold in color this offered a piercing nose of tangerine and mineral. Amazingly consistent with previous notes of tropical fruits though a touch more complexity on the dense and concentrated palate. The white stone minerality on the finish makes this wine rock, literally. Great stuff.

May 18, 2007 - Eyesintime brought this into town for dinner last night with a few CWM. I've had a a handful of Nigl GruVe's in the last 5 years and this was the best of them. Weingut Nigl is probably the finest producer in the Kremstal region of Austria. The Privat is Nigl's top bottling. It is a proprietary name and the wine is made by a careful selection of the best grapes from the oldest vines in the Senftenberger Piri vineyard. Light golden yellow color. Very aromatic with nuances of wild mushrooms. Rather intense and attacking on the palate. Fleshier than either the 2000 or 2004 Riesling Privats that I've had. Notes of lemon, tropical fruits, white pepper and a stoney minerality. Full bodied with a huge finish. 93-94 points

February 16, 2007 - On the one hand, one of my favorite wines of the night, on the other hand a tad disappointing as it wasn't quite what I expected. Instead of the regally austere wine I had anticipated based on other Privats, this was a juicy/friendly slobbery kiss of a GV. White peach and tropical fruits, big, with a touch of sweetness I didn't expect. Lots of body, a little hint of white pepper and lots of mineral notes on the finish. Big white, ready to go. Saved a bit for the first course, very good match with Betsy's scallops in foie gras butter.

December 18, 2006 - Last tasted back in March. Deep golden hue this has a nose of tangerine, mineral, spice, white pepper and some earthiness. Extremely concentrated and dense on the palate. Loads of exotic fruits such as mango, ugli fruit and papaya. White stone mineral and pepper on the finish. Truely great wine.
