Community Tasting Notes 95

January 28, 2024 - Ether and plum on the nose; red cherry and blackberry on the palate, with notes of tobacco and earthy spice on the long finish, with light tannins and good acidity. This is right in the sweet spot, and although it will hold for at least a few years it is ready to drink now. There was no sediment in this bottle, although I see others have found some, so bottle variation is in play.

August 25, 2023 - Very nicely matured Brunello. Noticeable bricking on the rim. Bargain Brunello from a great vintage with some age equals great QPR. Loads of sediment in the bottle. Smoothly integrated, cherries and bramble, the sum is greater than the parts. Went well with chorizo pasta (or pizza).

March 9, 2023 - This wine continues to impress me. After a bit of time it opens to well balanced wine with ample fruit to carry the day. Drink up!

December 31, 2022 - This really is drinking in a beautiful spot today, and you/I should have no hesitation to dive into them with earnest. Note taken an hour open and poured. The aromas are quite glorious and expressive of what you desire in a well stored, mid-aged Brunello. Notes include rose hips, briar, and rich, vibrant, thick fruit. Mature and confident... pretty as all get out. As I poke around the nose, I'm trying to find all the particular aromas to pull out (like, there's also some plums and strawberries), but that kind of misses the whole point of it, because it's all about the whole picture and integration. It reminds me of playing in the forest (surrounded by blackberry bushes) as a child. The palate is richer and darker than the nose, with softer, more mature fruits than the nose (which was more vibrant), light acid as well with moderate tannins. Those tannins carry into the finish with light acid. A nice richness of flavor, including dark dried figs, cooked down strawberries, some light acidity, and just the slightest amount of bitterness. Larger sized sips give you more fruit on the palate and finish. Again, I think these are peaking and I'd drink them now. The nose is just so gorgeous you don't want to miss it, and the palate and finish are already fully developed for where I want my Brunello to go. I think the fruit will continue to fade and not present as clearly as we have today.

(MARTINA Brunello) Brunello Magic Dear Friends, I’ve been working on this all day (thus the late offer) but the tardy delivery should be worth the wait. In a nutshell, I’ve tasted dozens of top 2006 Brunello (at least twice) and this wine may be my pick of the vintage. For what it is, taking everything into account (price/quality/rarity), the 2006 Martina would be tough to top. With a stature that reminds me of 2010 Pauillac (from the symmetry of tannin and freshness), this wine has it all – loads of deep and resinous fruit, mouth-coating structure, harmonic acidity and a finish that lasts and lasts. It’s an undiscovered gem that presents us with the magic of what I call VVV convergence (vintage/vineyard/vinify) – a rarity indeed: Simply put, this is one of the top bargains I’ve come across this year – it took all day to make the deal happen but here you go... FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 48/person until we run out. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for dense and serious structure aligned to fantastic freshness...all balanced by the poise of a great growing season. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the winery cellar (we’ll have small second allocation in June but it’s at the regular price) 2006 Martina (Sassa) Brunello di Montalcino - This parcel is set to depart from Montalcino – it will arrive in the late spring (please check OARS for local pick-up after June 1st). It will ship during the Fall shipping season. Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS?
