September 20, 2022 - Great Wine Dinner, No Wine Theme (Tzuco - Chicago IL): Ultra rich and meaty with dense black fruit, sweet spice throughout, then ending with a meaty and complex finish. Great balance, culminating with a long, layered ending. Great now, and possibly for another decade. Much cleaner than the last bottle I tasted last year.

June 3, 2022 - Perfect bottle for a great wine evening. Was 2nd best WOTN next to a perfect mag of 88 Cristal Rose. Deep garnet with bricking on the rim. A huge nose of tertiary flavors and fruits: Dark cherry, plum jam, roasted meats, savory spices, brambles and leather. lots more of the same on the palate with some minty suggestions. Full but soft tannins and a finale that goes on and on. Bought on release. A real beauty with plenty of life ahead.

April 3, 2022 - Stored under perfect conditions since release. Dense garnet with broad orange rim. After some minutes in the glass it offers an intense nose of cherries, espresso, bacon, bramble, spices, cedar and minty notes. With extended airing it looses some of its fruity notes, so a decant is not recommended. But from the opened bottle it offers all of the above mentioned scents and flavors, still with a strong tannic backbone and good refreshing acidity. The finish goes on and on for many minutes with all its tertiary notes and its primary fruity notes coming up again and again. Truly extraordinary and ultimately perfect. 5/15/20/10. -2030 if perfectly stored since release.

March 5, 2022 - Three hour decant. Good fill. Cork soaked a little more than halfway. Fully mature but still bright. Meaty, especially on the nose but still feminine. Great length. Unquestionably a great wine but I didn’t get the magical profundity that can come with wines of this age and pedigree. I received it as a gift 25 years ago and opened it with the friend who gave it to me. Special bottle and a great evening, but I’m glad neither of us paid $1,000 for it.

November 20, 2021 - From Paris with Love, 2021 Edition; 11/19/2021-11/21/2021 (Paris (La Tour D'Argent et al)): Our second experience with this beauty ( Papies 99 in 2016) once again from the unique and special cellar of La Tour D'Argent, Paris.
If we are honest we ordered this after being carried away from the perfect 1989 La Mouline that we had just before and arrived a bit late in a superb line up that always happens at our events at La TdA. Still and testament to the beauty and presence of the wine we all smiled like children given another round in the ferris wheel and magnificent wines .
Bright and full of energy and charm, classic savoury nose of smoky meat, light dark fruit and spice. A superb show on the palate followed . So alive and with many more summers of life. A superb 98-99 and we hope we cross paths again with it and promise next time it will be opened first!
