September 20, 2019 - Needed some time to open up - at first it was a bit oaky and reductive, but with air this turned into a showcase of beautiful polished black fruit accented by smoky, meaty, and lightly briny notes that kept building with air. It's a rich wine that shows the ripeness of the vintage, but the ripeness is also conveyed with a sense of restraint and finesse and the whole package is very compelling.

September 20, 2019 - HDH auction at Spiaggia; 9/19/2019-9/21/2019 (Chicago, IL): Yeah, this is the stuff. This definitely has the classic Chave smell, and some really lovely black fruit. Very dense and inky, this is unresolved right now. A bit of sweetness from the opulent fruit, but this was a bit lacking in the spice/olive/brine characteristics on the nose. The fruit profile is black -- it's a little smoky and dense, but this is truly just a story of opulent black fruit. Time is needed.

August 9, 2019 - Wow this is good. Blackberries, sour cherries, tar. Flavor goes forever. Smooth as miles Davis. Very young but I wanted to try. As a lover of Syrah this is the epicenter to judge all others.

January 7, 2019 - Fantastic !! Beautiful, yet big. Silky with incredible balance and good length. Very very young though - 5 years plus, preferably 10 and more.
    Wow loved it.

April 29, 2018 - At dinner. Brief note. Brambly and thick blackberry and blueberry wrap around an impenetrable iron core laced with fennel pollen, hickory smoke, hot rendered lamb fat, and crushed granite. This was very large scaled yet remained refined in its balance. Tannins here are fairly big but not so fierce that it makes this unwelcoming. This is still a baby and needs another 15 years before resolving. Big upside here for sure. Such a treat to try!
