January 7, 2019 - Fantastic !! Beautiful, yet big. Silky with incredible balance and good length. Very very young though - 5 years plus, preferably 10 and more.
    Wow loved it.

April 29, 2018 - At dinner. Brief note. Brambly and thick blackberry and blueberry wrap around an impenetrable iron core laced with fennel pollen, hickory smoke, hot rendered lamb fat, and crushed granite. This was very large scaled yet remained refined in its balance. Tannins here are fairly big but not so fierce that it makes this unwelcoming. This is still a baby and needs another 15 years before resolving. Big upside here for sure. Such a treat to try!

February 23, 2018 - A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Raveneau and Chave Vertical (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Incredibly massive and primary nose displaying blackhole of black fruit, blackberry jelly, crushed black cherry, ink, licorice, anise, lavender and strong limestone mineral. Unbelievable concentration, packed dense inky black fruit, good acidity, strong mineral presence and the finish is incredibly long but dominated by intense black fruit. It is very compact and primary without showing much nuance at the moment. This is more youthful than the 10 which is pretty expressive already. This will be another monumental Chave in another two decades but opening now will be a waste.

February 7, 2018 - Double-decanted 3 hours prior to drinking, and put the cork back afterwards.
Powerful and fresh, ripe fruit, spice, mint. Big structure, smooth and firm tannins, balanced. Lingering finish.

November 23, 2017 - A 5 hour decant made this approachable but remained super acidic. Raspberry liqueur intermixed with vanilla, sage, and underbrush on the nose. Palate remains sharp but more forward than expected with ripe strawberries, cloves, and baking spice. This is 30 plus year wine withupward potential of a couple more points.
