December 19, 2023 - Pre-Xmas Indulgence; 12/1/2023-12/22/2023 (Madrid y Alicante - España): First of three. Considering for granted that everyone knows this wine comes from young vines from Grand Cru soils, discontinued and labeled merely as 1st Cru, this particular bottle would deserve the highest status. Please just consider it a GC from an extraordinary recent vintage, for example a 2020.
Bottle that has been sleeping in the darkness of my modest cellar for almost twelve years and opened only half an hour before lunch. Cork in full shape. Translucent and at the same time bright ruby colour with orange edges. On the nose you can find that blunt force of a true GC, with precision and that failure to cover more and more. Delicious aromas of hawthorn blossom, very fleshy, sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves), marble dust and fried nettles. What a wonder of complexity. On the palate it shows the silky texture of a well-bodied wine without the structure enveloping in excess such a gift. Balanced and tasty, with a gastronomic acidity that accompanies the sip to the throat. As a wish, I would like more length. Very elegant fruity aftertaste. Considering what it is, it has been an almost unique experience.

February 10, 2022 - Everybody Likes a Good Pair... Matched 2009 and 2010 Red Burgundy (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Served blind in 09/10 tasting. Rich and meaty with good brightness, which made me think this 2010. Good concentration, good energy. Best to enjoy over the next few years.

February 10, 2022 - Blind in an 09/10 tasting. 2010 was corked, so a little harder to get a feel for 09 vs. 10 in this pair. Young vines Chambertin. Nice meatiness and spice to the wine. I was torn between Vosne and Gevrey. Very good for it's level.

January 4, 2020 - Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind 2010 (Chicago IL): Served double blind to the tasting group alongside Broadley 2010 Claudia's Choice, although I intended to bring the 2010 vintage for both. Oops. Great nose showed ripe black and red cherry, both sweet and savory spice and perfumed notes. Similar flavors, just seemingly slightly less complex and bright. Very good now, still some possible upside.

November 4, 2019 - This was stellar. Served with roasted pronghorn this wine was just singing. By far the best wine I've had from this domaine and made me think I should revisit. A powerful, but refined nose of ripe but still fresh fruit with hints of sauvage and earth, floral notes on the back end. The palate was perfectly balanced with excellent depth and a long finish. This is young vines Chambertin and it showed the class of the vineyard in this bottle for sure.
