December 10, 2022 - La Romanee 09 is (consistently) a 100 pointer in my book. Having context of 06, 07, 08 and 16 over two days with friends it again confirmed it’s perfection to me here. Not quite as open as the 07 but still surprisingly accessible, complete on nose and palate which might sound boring descriptor but it’s just as it is and the mouthfeel is from another planate. I put my chips on the table here and claim this to be one of the best wines ever made in the world. And I look forward to following it over the next decades as long as I can. It’s extraterrestrial juice from the one and only Louis-Michel!!!

November 10, 2022 - Epic bottle I had in Beaune, France. Not sure it gets much better than this … amazing complexity of red berry, some hint of floral, spices, and then the next level 6th sense stuff like creosote. Crazy complexity and just kept getting better throughout dinner. I was surprised that this 09 had a hint of bricking at the rim in the glass but nonetheless silky smooth mouth feel.

October 9, 2022 - Pronounced nose intensity with notes of sour cherry, wild red berry, spices. Still youthful. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Tannin is rounded. The nose can be better if decant it or bottle aged. 2009 vintage seem to be closed for most Burgundy that I have tried. My first bottle of La Romanee and who knows when do I have another chance to drink this again.

January 12, 2022 - Bottle 2532/3497 - my second encounter with this elexir. First time was 3-4 years back and hands down the single best wine I think I ever had. On pnp an immediate serenity and symmetry to this, it’s much more savoury than fruity - umami galore as I always find with this special site but in 09 it’s ever so protracted. Reluctantly with coaxing crushed red berries, touch of rose pedals reveal themselves. The word kaleidoscopic which might be often overused starts to come to mind. Touch of white pepper, bay leave, mineral explosion. Side by side Tache 96 it’s tough to pick a winner but ultimately this edges ahead for its anchovy like umami, salty rich but also rose pedal fragrant qualities, feisty, weightless but immense. Not a wine that drinks “easy” just too much in here but a perfect wine no doubt. Today probably 98-99, few years back 100+, in ten years could be one of the best pinots ever made. If you drink today decant and follow over few hours, if you can wait Park it for a decade or two. Toward the end after three hours in the decanter the “monster” roars its gear big time with soaring raspberry primary notes. Oh boy...

November 9, 2019 - Vibrant Med ruby. Incredibly elegant nose of potpourri, rose petal, cold herbs, forest floor, sweet fruits, Asian spices, so elegant. Always a treat to take a sniff of the wine from CLB. The palate is impeccably balance too. Such harmonious that is impossible to dissect the complex flavours. Weightless, keep growing on the palate and lingering there, giving you wave and wave of finish. The salinity, crunchy sweet fruits and the inner perfume is off the chart. There is also a trace of warmth / heat from the 2009 vintage, however i'm splitting hair here. A grand wine though we prefer the 09 Rousseau Chambertin today.
