February 2, 2020 - At Sumi Restaurant, Noosa Junction. This wine was served after decanting 3 hours before replacing in the bottle and serving after a further 3 hours. It apparently was quite rustic on the palate on opening but when served it was in great shape. The colour was a light cherry red with some edge browning and the nose was a lifted compote of red cherries, wild strawberry, touches of raspberry and as it evolved autumn herbs and lavender were evident. The palate was pure with lovely fruit characters reflecting the nose with a ball of soft fruits balanced by the earth and herbal touches leading into a fine long finish. This a delicious mature CNdP of great balance and intensity without weight.

December 13, 2019 - A Splendid Pre-Holiday Celebration With the London Crew (67 Pall Mall): Unmistakably Rayas, at absolute peak. Ethereal wild strawberry and kirsch notes, weightless and subtle. The acid is subdued at this point. I picked up some pepper on the rear palate. Loved it!

December 1, 2017 - What a way to begin the month and end the year - a vertical of Rayas. This was tasted blind against its sibling, the Pignan. Not knowing which wine it was added to the fun. This was consistent with my note in July but with a slightly more complexity from the forest floor that hit you initially. After it disappeared, the red strawberry/kirsch notes emerged along with the perfect acidity to keep things fresh.

December 1, 2017 - Grenache with Panache (New York, NY): Tasted blind side by side with 1996 Rayas Pignan. The nose on this was beguiling - floral, spice and black tea leaves. On the palate, this was also a lovely, feminine styled wine - light red fruit with lots of earth, light smoke, and a savory finish - but in a very ethereal package - just dances across the tongue. This was my preferred wine of the two (although they were both great) but my guess was Pignan. I always have found the Pignan to be more feminine than the Reserve so that was what led my guess. Everyone else at the table called this as the Reserve.
