May 10, 2023 - Dark red at the core, fading to translucence at the rim. Aromas of cranberry and raspberry. Light and precise on the palate, bright cherries, strawberries, spice. Fine tannins, nice acidity and balance. Finishes gradual and subtle with raspberry notes. Gets brighter with food. Lovely older Pinot with lots of life even if a bit past prime. I'd drink over the next 4 years.

December 2, 2022 - Typical Copain PN. Fairly austere but enough fruit to make it enjoyable.

    April 6, 2022 - Better than I remember, still tasting great !!
The cork was perfect after over a decade in the bottle. This balanced Pinot Noir was consumed over two days. Deep ruby color with slight oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of cranberry and black cherries. Tasty flavors of bing cherry, raspberry, and strawberry compote with a tasty medium to long finish. Great fruit from the western end of Anderson Valley made into a balanced Pinot Noir through great winemaking at Copain by Wells and the crew. This Pinot Noir is an age worthy wine and has more years of life left. I still have two more bottles of this vintage remaining; I may open one of them in a month or so to verify my tasting note.

May 13, 2020 - This was popped, poured and followed over a few hours along with grilled pork chops. Dark, macerated cherries and a little sous bois on the nose. The palate is somewhat rich, buttressed by decent acidity and showing more of the dark cherries and brothy notes indicating its age. Holding on fine, but I don't surmise it is going to improve with any additional bottle age. Smoke 'em if you got 'em as, honestly, its a bit simplistic to begin with and not improving with more sideways time.

January 5, 2020 - Bought at release - first time trying. Some macerated dark cherry with balancing acidity, earthy notes. Medium weight. A perfectly fine drink but don't see that cellaring for a decade offered much return.

July 22, 2019 - MNB: Grab Bag: (blind)
Medium minus ruby, slightly cloudy, hint of garnet.
Earthy nose, mushroom, oxidative (bruised apple), slight warm woody notes.
Dry, full-bodied, 14.3% alcohol, medium minus tannins, elevated acid - bright and a hint of balsamic.
Lots of oak influence - powdered dry cinnamon, dried ham.

Old-world (earthy) with oak and dried red cherry fruit:

    - Rioja
    - Chianti riserva - too low in tannins
    - GSM - too prominent oak.
    - Priorat - too red-fruited. Too light in color.

    Final call:

2013 Rioja Reserva, More modern producer like Muga? Mostly French oak? Not as oxidative or balsamic as LdH. What's that wine with the matte bottle? Faustino? It reminds me of Faustino - un-integrated, overt, cedary oak.

Actual: 2009 Copain Monument Tree Pinot, 13.7% alcohol.

Analysis: Shows age... I'm a bit surprised at how the oak shows. Great acid though!

April 20, 2019 - Best bottle of this so far, probably because it was from mag. Still a baby in this format.
