May 22, 2021 - Black raspberry, black cherry, spices, raisins and prune notes on the deeply aromatic nose. Between medium and full bodied (16% ABV) with really deep but beautifully rounded red cherry upfront. Depth both upfront and through the mid-body is exemplary. Fruit through the middle is really good with red and black cherry and underlying dark plum but fully open, rounded and very expressive. Backside shows balanced tannins and acidity along with spices and tart red fruit notes. I expected this to be a bit heavier and dense and instead, while certainly having depth, the balance was truly what made this wine special. Each element seemed to fall into place neatly with the other as the wine overall showed excellent harmony. Drinking at peak, but with the element to maintain is level for at least another couple of years.

September 28, 2020 - Heavy alcohol - not out of the ordinary for Amarone - but it needs a bit of time to settle down. After about 90m-2h, the heat came off it and revealed a very nice, balanced wine. I bought this at the vineyard about 10 years ago; it has lost a fair bit of the fruit-forward palate that I remember and that the 2011 still had last time I opened a bottle, but the structure and balance is very much still there. Interested to see where this goes from here.

April 25, 2020 - This was a recent purchase from a buyer of other people’s cellars. Seems to have been well kept. But this is a big, monster of a wine as is probably expected. 16% ABV is noticeable. Decanted at 3pm and tasted from 5-10pm with some left for tomorrow. Dense, opaque dark garnet. In addition to the alcohol on the nose there is both some bright red fruit and some dried dark fruit, some cedar, sweet oak elements and a hint of varnish. Palate is chewy with some bright acidity and low to medium tannin. Prune and raisin elements on the attack but a slightly hollow mid-palate then a moderately long savory finish that carries a slight medicinal element. This clearly needs the right food...it was only ok with our steaks, I think it needs a rich stew or something braised or a complex pasta dish to really tame this beast. Should still last a while in the cellar despite the alcohol which is hard to avoid in Amarone.

August 9, 2018 - 20 min decant. Very nice nose and good flavors. No trace of heat. Had a 2nd glass about 1.5 --2 hours in and it seemed to me that it had gone downhill. Still, the bottle disappeared fairly quickly and it seemed to be well liked by our group. My least favorite wine of this small tasting.

June 18, 2016 - PnD let air for 2hrs. Dark crimson purple just saturated with plum rim. Fig prune blackberry and amaro on the nose. Medium weight with velvety tannins. Ripe fig prune blackberry herbs and a pleasant amaro bitterness. Huge flavours in a sleek frame. Combines the best of an Amrone intensity without any flabbiness.
