January 7, 2021 - Had low expectations after reading so-so reviews here. Turns out to be a fairly enjoyable BdM. Not stellar but went great with ricotta stuffed pasta shells and meatballs in a marinara sauce.

Decanted for two hours. Medium ruby-garnet with bricking on the rim. Attractive aromas of tangy cherry, green tobacco, lemon zest and clay. Ripe cherry and raspberry fruit on the entry, followed by cedar chest and earth. Smooth, supple tannins and a hint of diacetyl on the finish. Solid performer.

March 12, 2017 - The color of this wine changed remarkably over a period of 2 hours decanting. Started off with a distinctively dark purple hue that faded into a much more traditional garnet color with orange and brown reflections. Aromas of tomato leaf, underripe tart cherries, sandalwood, leather, green tea, wilted flowers, and clay pot. Palate has chewy, mouth-coating tannins and good acidity. Mid-palate is a bit lacking in flavor, just a little woody. The finish is medium but somewhat indistinguished. It is worth noting that I brought this wine back from Italy and it faced some degree of hardship in transportation, so this should be taken with a grain of salt.

December 14, 2016 - This lacks depth and complexity found in other vintages of Barbi. The extra years on barrel have added more tannins that right now overshadows the fruit. A bit of spices and plum revealed itself after some air. Medium bodied and a short, dry finish.

All in all, a pleasant and relatively easy drinking BdM that in my opinion isn't quite worth its price tag.

October 14, 2016 - Strong oak scent. Tobacco, choclatr and cherry flavors. The wines feels a little flat imo . Very short finish. Goes very well with spicy food.

August 26, 2016 - 88-89+ Still very tight, took a bit of air to really open up. I agree with BurgundyAL that it's more international style than Brunelo. That said still a delicious wine, went great with food and was balanced. Tannins were a bit astringent and imo need more time. Good now, for me better in another 5 yrs or so. QpR is just so so, probably a tad to pricy for me based on the quality.
