August 16, 2019 - Grainy tannins, dark intense fruit, camphor, cherries. It just goes on for minutes. Tar and earthy elements, and liq
ourice. Crazy wine. Right now this is 95/100 with +2 potential after 2-3 years in the cellar.
On day 2, tar and liqourice, forest floor and other tertiary notes dominate, then dark fruit kicks in, covered in mouth watering tannings. A fresh wine to keep for many years to come, but also very good now. No signs of tiredness after 30 hours of oxygen.

På smak er den en skikkelig sexy smoothie.
Sømløs med superb frukt og strålende friskhet.
    Drikker fantastisk nå.
    Balansert vin med lineær kurve.
Fast lang finish med helt fine bestemte tanniner.

April 14, 2019 - Comparative Tasting of B. Mascarello Barolo and G. Mascarello Barolo Monprivato (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Deep color. Powerful, wild, alcoholic nose with vanillin and volatile esters. Round, ripe red fruit, some earth, and then very grainy, astringent wood tannins. Coarse and not clean. My least favorite wine today.

March 8, 2019 - Served Friday night with my Veal Bolognese. This only worked with this dish because it had enough time in bottle to soften and not overpower the dish. If this was served young with this dish, you would have mostly tasted only dark and rugged Nebbiolo tannins.

This was vacuum sealed and re-stored to allow me to write notes today as we had friends for dinner on Friday.

The reveals; blackberries, dark sweet and sour cherries, soft floral blueberries, cherries, black plum and hints of back raspberries, notes of cooked rhubarb on the glass edge, soft, dark tarry notes, leather, anise, whiff of graphite, limestone minerals, dark rich earth, dry brush, some dark spice, cedar, light bay leaf and herbaceous notes with dark fresh & withering florals and violets.

The body is near full but, not quite. The tannins have rounded and softened but, still have teeth and slightly, sticky tarriness. The structure and tension are just approaching a really good phase. Tannins show some velvetiness. The length and balance show beauty and elegance. This wine has 10–15 of good drinking ahead. Ripe; blackberries, dark sweet and sour cherries, soft floral blueberries, cherries, black plum, plum and hints of back raspberries, notes of cooked rhubarb on the glass edge. Dark tarry notes, leather, anise, graphite, limestone minerals, dry crushed rock powder, dark rich earth, dry brush, dark chocolate, some bold dark spice with palate heat, clove, nutmeg, very light vanillin notes, cedar, light bay leaf and herbaceous notes with blue flowers, dark fresh & withering florals and violets. Beautiful wine. The acidity is like a gentle rain shower. The finish is elegant, well balanced, floral and persists for minutes.

March 1, 2019 - Tooch Going Away Dinner (TDS): Classic AF aromatics with rose petals, dried red fruit and licorice. Yum. The fruit is well-concentrated and smooth at first but quite tannic and firm on the mid-palate and finish. Cleary needs a lot of time, but showing good potential for upside.

(Bartolo Mascarello Barolo, Barolo) Transparent brick red with pink highlights. In the nose, a touch of alcohol leads to aromas of fresh, bright redcurrant; wild strawberry; and sour cherry, with hints of dried flowers, worn leather, and asphalt. The pleasantly restrained palate offers dried cherry, cranberry, and even caramelized strawberry. Supple tannins emerge on the way to a pleasantly astringent, slightly bitter, and spicy finish. A graceful wine that is decidedly present yet understated and elegant. Postmodern Barolo: The War That Never Was
