March 18, 2020 - PNP. Nice cherry fruit. Noticeable alcoholic cinnamon burn on the finish. Very similar to the experience of buying stocks on 3/17/20. Greedy with anticipation. And then down 25% on 3/18/20. Like the stock portfolio, let's see how more time helps... QPR fail.

February 16, 2020 - Decanted in cellar for 2 hours. Mascarello Montprivato - you either love it, don't understand it, or are drinking it way too early. The 2007 was In a perfect state for the black truffle pasta dinner. Light ruby with youthful ring, not at all suggesting age. The nose was earthy and a touch green - but in a nice way... beautiful depth of red fruit, but absolutely dry non-fruit driven palate. Super traditional. Medium acidity excellent fine tannins. Lots of earthy body - so good with the truffles.. again spice, leather, forest floor. Good long finish that builds with the truffles. Great Barolo - years of life ahead of it.

    Excellent.

February 2, 2020 - In my cellar since release. Decanted at 4:30 pm and tasted throughout the evening along side a bottle of the 2004 vintage. Like the 2004 there appears to be some bottle variation in the 2007 vintage as noted in some CT tasting notes as well as Pro reviews. This bottle was pristine. Light to medium ruby like a Red Burg. Nose was floral, spicy, earthy and full of black pepper, truffle and cherry. Good acidity and some still slightly mouth drying tannins remain. The finish was very long (45-60 seconds) and highlighted the cherry, some anise and a little vanilla (not sure where that came from) but was noticeable despite the use of large, old, neutral Slavonian oak botti to age the wine. This was a bit richer, chewier and fuller bodied than the 2004 most of the evening but there was much going back and forth among us on which was the better wine, including my own opinion flip-flopping through the evening. In the end I slightly preferred the 2007.
