January 5, 2022 - Dark color with no signs of bricking. Rich vanilla nose with black and blue fruits; palette reinforces the blueberry and dark fruit; long, with structure suggesting this wine has more evolution left. Too delicious to resist quaffing all I have before ultimate maturity.

December 30, 2017 - Drinking beautifully, still developing with a LONG life left. I’m partial to the 2008 Napa cabs, and this certainly reinforced that preference. Dark purple, blackberry, touch of blueberry, vanilla prominent upon opening, much more subtle the next day. Masculine body, but not too rich, long explosive finish. Yum.

November 8, 2017 - Found this in the secondary market at a really nice price - hard to find a To-Kalon cab for under $90. Dark ruby/purple fruit - dark cherry, blackberry, and dark currants. Smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth. Nice full flavors of dark berries and some spice - spice box, licorice, etc. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Not much improvement with time but at a nice drinking point. Drank next to a 2015 Carter Beckstoffer Las Piedras La Verdad which was quite a bit better in every aspect - although the La Verdad is also one of the best wines that I've ever had. I believe the Janzen might of shown a little better by itself.

February 9, 2016 - This is a crazy dense and complex wine. However, I am not 100% sure that this bottle isn't made to enjoy now. This bottle seems to have that Caymus Special Selection kind of thickness and complexity after it has been open for about 5 or 6 hours, but this one was pretty much that way from the pop and pour tonight! This bottle was MASSIVE. Great Fat Tuesday wine. Cork withdrawn with a black stain, little bleed. Truffle, blackberry, smoke, and lavender poured out of the bottle. No need to stick your nose in the glass of this one. Beautiful! The entry is blackberry, truffle, snickerdoodle, velvety, thick, and gorgeous. The middle of this wine is blackberry cobbler, old leather lavender, chocolate brownie, with truffle dying off. The finish is velvety, cedar tannin, black licorice, BLACK PEPPER, baking spice, flint. The complexity here is incredible. Every sip showed something a little different. I didn't want to open this bottle as it has some sentimental value about its purchase, but it was READY and DID NOT disappoint! But I just don't see this one developing more than it already has. Drink 2014-2020.

November 18, 2014 - This is an absolutely EPIC wine. Full bodied, incredibly complex, tons and tons of character, right from the first nose, through the incredibly long aftertaste. All kinds of fruit, with a unique delicate whiff of ripe plantain, balanced out by exactly the right tannins. This wine truly comes close to perfection in my books.
