June 25, 2022 - Last bottle we had, and probably the best. Tannins were smooth, cabernet fruit still lively. May have been better a little bit younger, but certainly still drinking well. Is Gaia the best cabernet from Clare?

June 29, 2021 - As soon as you open the bottle you're hit with fresh blackcurrant aromas. This wine is still very youthful, possibly a testament to the stelvin closure. The front palate is a rich blackcurrant, which is then followed by some subtle oak and eucalyptus. Not too much earthiness at this stage. It also doesn't have a huge length but I only opened the bottle half an hour ago so will let it sit for an hour or so.

August 19, 2020 - Very fruit driven that masks the structure which is a bit odd for a Gaia. Tobacco and charcoal nose, it is quite cassis / blackcurrant at its core. Not much else to say. A nice wine with steaks but don’t take it to an intellectual wine evening as it is not that interesting. Drink now or 5+ years but I would drink sooner rather than later.

June 3, 2020 - Appearance: deep garnet
Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of charcoal, blueberry, mocha, dark chocolate, bramble, dark plum, toast, savoury and a little rusty. It's developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus tannins (smooth and well integrated), high alcohol (feel like medium), medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity. The finish is medium plus.
Overall, it's a very good wine. Can drink now, and has potential for further ageing.
I haven't tried a lot of Bordeaux blend from Clare Valley before. This wine is certainly intriguing as it has very distinctive charcoal and almost burned characters. Is it due to heavy toasted barrels or just really hot vintage? Not sure. Despite of that, the wine is still very pleasant to drink because of the rich fruit flavours of blueberry to balance it out, so juicy and enjoyable. It ticks all the boxes to be a very good wine but in my view it sort of misses the X factor to make you WOW and be an outstanding wine. -

February 25, 2020 - Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Leather, blackcurrant, a little reductive; time in glass helps but it's quite reductive in fact. There is liquorice and alcohol. And that slightly closed note is present on the palate as well. Works far better with food but feels like it needs a longer decant or more time in the bottle. Alcohol heat is quite intrusive.
