July 30, 2021 - Mature cherry with slightly sweet spice, more red fruited than black, with a good dollop of earth and cooked mushroom. Clearly showing Grand Cru density.

July 16, 2021 - Interesting to try. Good secondary and tertiary development. Getting a little tired. Lots in the way of Chinese medicine cabinet, herbaceous, leather sort of thing. Dried red and black fruit. Unfortunately I lost my notes.

January 2, 2021 - Not much has changed in the 6 years since my last note. Decanted 4.5 hours. Out of the bottle it is dark red in color and the nose shows ripe cherry fruit. But it goes in and out of open and closed stages and it took the full 4.5 hours, if not 5 hours, to fully open. Then it shows ripe dark fruit, great concentration and density, and ripe, plush tannins on a long and full bodied finish. This wine is very good now if you can give it 5 hours of air, but will likely improve with a few years of age and will last a long time. A-/A

January 1, 2021 - Great wine. Great burgundy. Just starting prime drinking. Deep brick ruby color. Just love the nose. Serious, dark cherry fruit, warm earth and a touch of fresh herbs. Savory. Medium bodied, complex and pure. Refined and rugged. Should improve for another decade. Here’s to 2021. (95)

November 29, 2020 - Tasted next to the 89 and while the 89 felt like it should have been drank 5 years ago, this one feels like it could use 5 more years. Still lots of fruit, structure, and density on the palate. Certainly things have started to mellow but this has lots of life left.

Burgundy-Report

  • By Bill Nanson
    4/1/2009 (link)

(Lambrays Clos des Lambrays) The aromatics are high-toned with faint notes of cedar. The palate has a little width though the flavours are attenuated. Tainted or tight - ? - either way a poor bottle.
