September 18, 2023 - Dinner with Liz, V, and Anna: Acetone notes are present, but the refinement of the red fruits, and the tobacco and floral notes liftvthis wine into a very refined space. Very tannic, but the tannins are not harsh, and the clarity of the palate and its long, involving finish are strong points of this wine. Excellent!

December 5, 2021 - The ‘08 Cotta has some attractive features, but the flavor profile of the wine appears to be aging faster than its texture. Likely due to oak usage, the flavors here are slightly muddled and there is significant drying tannin on the palate, which seems unlikely to integrate in the near term.

The nose is dark and spicy, with dark red plum fruit, dark floral aromas, menthol, and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is medium in body but lacks some freshness in terms of acidity, and in the mid to back end of the palate, a wave of drying tannin kicks in that seems nowhere near ready to integrate. The drying sensation here reminds me of other Nebbiolo aged in new barrels, which in some cases seems to impart a type of drying tannin that never integrates (i.e, I recall this on the azelia san Rocco 1996). Dark plum fruit, sweet spice, and mint linger on the palate.

November 16, 2021 - Not bad, not good. Slightly tired, fresh acids, fading but resolved calm red fruit spectrum, with bite.

April 22, 2021 - A decent amount of browning evidences its age. The nose is rather unexpressive. On the palate, the fruit is chunky and unrefined, lacking focus and detail. This improves with air, but it's time to drink. It is okay, but a letdown given the pedigree, and will not improve further from here.

June 21, 2020 - I thought this was very good and well made, but a little modern/strong oak influence for my taste.
