February 14, 2015 - Really like Mike Smith's Quivet Syrahs - great balance of fruit, smoke, and tannins.

December 19, 2014 - Showing very well right now. Did not require much decanting, just the right amount of spice to go with the fruit.

November 19, 2013 - Right in middle of drinking window but was still a little tight with the tannins. Our pairing wasn't great, because of a red pasta sauce. Not a very heavy or spicy Syrah, would pair accordingly. Would recommend at least one hour of decanting.

April 8, 2012 - Had with roasted lamb dish. Followed a 2001 Viader and the differences were notable. Viader, esp at that age, was more balanced but the Quivet held its own in every other way. Showing good fruit right now and expect it to be at its peak in anger 18-24 months. Will open again in 5-6 months with something roasted or grilled.

March 18, 2012 - Mike Smith popped this for us to taste when we stopped by to pick up our Myraid Syrah and Semillon. Tasted with him and he gave us the rest to take home with us. Uncorked for about 45 minutes and re-opened 4 hours later.
More primal than the 09 Myriad Esther we had last night. Same dark ruby/purple color but the nose is offering lots of olive notes, smoked meat, pepper and allspice. Good structure here with a burst of pure blue and black fruit on the palate, a nice acidic lift and balanced ripe tannins. This just lingers on and on. Juicy, juicy juicy.
Looks like Quivet is going to be added to my portfolio in the near future.

February 5, 2012 - Broodingly dark. Nose is pure; it says "I am Syrah, hear me roar!". Black & blue fruits of blueberry compote, blackberries, sassafras and cardamom. Palate shows a deep pure and focused wine with tons of verve and pizazz; warm blueberry pie with hints of leather, tar and pomegranate. Balance is amazing with tannins in control. Some violets and huckleberries pop thier heads out during the ride and the finish just goes on and on. This is really a very great Syrah that puts me in mind of a young Scholium Scythia. I just went to the site and purchased the 2010s which I had forgotten I had access to. Well done, Mike!

December 16, 2011 - Nothing there to be excited about. A decent everyday wine, for a CA Syrah.
