April 23, 2019 - A lot to take in here. Toasted nuts. Heavy oxidation, dry, metallic, briny, with lots of burnt sugar. Reminds me of the savory intensity of demi-glacé or a dark roux sampled straight from a cast iron skillet.

December 29, 2018 - If you like snacking before dinner, this 30 year Amontillado will bring your aperitif game to new levels. Think about toasted browned hazelnuts and aged tan gouda with the calcium crystal crunchies.

The mahogany color is stunning and suggests extreme depth. The nose confirms with complex aromas of sweet dates, caramel, walnuts, vanilla, and toffee and probably twenty other notes that aren't registering. Aromas suggest sweet but it's completely dry - salty, nutty, and slippery with a little bite. Sharp flavors of caramel apple, walnuts and roasted cocoa nibs.

December 22, 2018 - Astonishinly good, concentrated, complex, lovely; darker, lots of intense flavors, silky, warm, very concentrated dry with a sweet impression, very very long.

July 4, 2018 - Wow! Dark brown color. Rich, complex nose. By FAR the best Amontillado I have had. I won't score this but I think it is comparable to wines in the 95 plus range - enormous character. Super complex on the tongue. Walnuts, salt and brine, green olives, meat, and more. Long complex finish. WOW!

March 26, 2018 - Fairly deep tawny core. Intense, complex nose of roasted nuts, butter, caramel, toast, celery leaves and wet wood. Dry, balanced acidity, with incredibly concentrated and intense flavors, mirroring the nose (salted, roasted nuts, dried onion, beef broth and celery). Length is incredibly long, and the wine gives an impression of intense savoriness on the palate. The flavors are so concentrated that one hardly notices the 21.5% alcohol. Not for the faint hearted, but anyone who enjoys dry sherry should try this.

(NV González Byass Amontillado VORS Del Duque, Jerez) Although it’s best known for its signature Tio Pepe Fino, González Byass produces a full range of outstanding Sherries, none better than the Amontillado Del Duque. The VORS designation (Very Old Rare Sherry) indicates that the average age of this stunning fortified wine is more than 30 years. Aromas and flavors suggest pressed flowers, dried Asian spices, roasted nuts, desiccated fruit, and old wood. Serve slightly cool with semi-hard cheese and dried fruit.

(NV Gonzalez Byass Amontillado Del Duque 30 Años) A 30 year old solera, 100% Palomino. Some volatility on the nose here, with a burnt character. Drier than the preceding wine, rather more reserved, certainly more challenging. Bitter, ameliorated with just a little sweetness and rounded texture.

(NV Gonzalez Byass Amontillado Del Duque 30 Años) A 30 year old solera. Complex, woody, nutty nose with a salty, tangy edge. Rich, weighty and textured on the palate, but quite dry. Salty tangy notes like those on the nose. Very good.
