May 2, 2024 - Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Blackcurrant, cassis, polished oak, sweet spice, a little alcohol prickle, very cedar, toast…compelling nose. Dense, concentrated but just about approachable after a small pour (30ish ml) was left I a glass for an hour…showing all the fruit, tannins integrated, travels ridiculously long. Superb.
April 27, 2024 - Still trailed Bevan Wildfoote in a side-by-side lunch of deli sandwiches... four drinkers 93,93,94,94. A lovely Bordeaux that probably could use more time. Gave it a 3-hour double decant, but it was still a bit closed, tasted like it was holding back. A treat nevertheless!
April 20, 2024 - Pure perfection.
February 4, 2024 - 2010 Was a Good Vintage in France (Jordan's Place - Chicago IL): Open 6 hours, 2 in decanter. Rocha nd ripe with enchanting aromas. Firm and dense on the palate that isn’t quite as accessible but giving a clear sense of its future glory, 2035-.
January 12, 2024 - Bought en primeur. Just opened two bottles. Considering the supposed pedigree here and vintage, very underwhelming. Remember the sales promotion back then was that 2010 was one of greatest vintage ever. Currently disjointed. Don’t bother with this until it decides to get in shape in x years time. I hope the true colors will be revealed.
December 24, 2023 - Christmas Eve dinner at Wimborne. Drank in Grassl Cru.
So good. Gotta say Lynch-Bages probably one of my favourite Bordeaux Chateau.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, nice cassis, thin layer of light grilled green herbs. Developing.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), smooth high tannins with good grip, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, dark berries, nice dark cassis, cedar, vein of pencil lead. Long satisfying finish.
Excellent quality. Open and expressive, but not in a flamboyant way like 2010 Cos d'Estournel. Classic sophistication.
December 18, 2023 - 79% Cab, 18% Merlot, 2% Cab Franc & 1% Petit Verdot
Beautiful aromas of red currant, black cherry, raspberry, and cedar.
Flavours were soft and hard to come by, everything from the nose was there with a long finish.
Medium plus acidity and plenty of dusty chalk tannins. Still, a long way to go for this wine, not close to being ready, even the colour of the wine shows no aging.
December 14, 2023 - CdB Committee Meeting: Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Black and blue fruits, dense and penetrating on the palate, tar, charcoal, still herbal, firm but approachable tannins. Very good, just needs the time and/or air. 92-93pts.
November 22, 2023 - Refined nose with a core of blackcurrant, fine spices, tobacco and leather. Full bodied and muscular on the palate. Very concentrated with great persistence. Hold.
November 21, 2023 - tight without much delineation of flavor but I have faith that it will develop in time.
