April 26, 2024 - OMG pure heaven. There is no doubt that this wine isn’t still alive and kicking. Drinking beautifully now.
    Medium Ruby.
Leather, balsamic earth, prune, blackberry, smoke. You can smell the age.
Totally integrated tannins yet still alive with an edge. Silky smooth on the palate with long sweet finish.
    Drink now for perfection.

April 7, 2024 - meh. I have had many amazing Opus wines over the years and this wasn't one of them. 24 years of age and showing tired. secondary and tertiary notes on the nose and mouth. cedar, orange peel, forest floor, mushroom, muted fruit. finish was decent, tannins soft and fully integrated. if you have these drink up, as it is headed downhill.

June 23, 2023 - Although the wine was technically past its peak, this Bordeaux blend, made from 84% Cab, 5% Cab Franc, 6% Merlot, 3% Malbec, & 2% Petit Verdot grapes, was flavorful, smooth, and had an elegant & silky finish. Well balanced & structured the wine still had much to offer, but probably has a limited number of years remaining. Drink now. Thoroughly enjoyed drinking this 23 year old wine.

May 5, 2023 - Outstanding wine. Relaxed tannins, balanced fruit, great finish.

My last tasting note scored it an 88. There was something different about this bottle than the last one. Or maybe I was just having a bad day. 🧐

February 20, 2022 - I have had bottles of Opus that I thoroughly enjoyed. This was not one of them. It was not bad, but it was not Opus level. it was just too restrained. I couldn’t pick out anything to keep my attention. It was a bit Chalky to me.

December 21, 2021 - Medium rudy in colour. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of black fruits, black currant cassis, toast, spices, vanilla, mushroom. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Tannin integrated and velvety. Smooth and easy drinking.

November 20, 2021 - This drank unbelievably well, particularly given that 2000 has a reputation as a tricky vintage in California. But this was incredibly good, and our impeccably stored bottle proves the "drink by 2015" moniker wrong. Color is still bright red, medium/dark with just the slightest amount of bricking at the rim. Nose is phenomenal - it truly is like marrying a Bordeaux with California fruit: leather, tobacco, cedar, just a hint of pleasant blackberry to round it out. Texture is super velvety, like silk. Tannins are nicely rounded at this point with a hint of sweetness on the finish which contrasts nicely with the overall savory characteristics of the nose. Nice long finish too. While I don't think this is, say, a 10yr wine at this point, I do think the active drinking window is still at peak. Decanted for about 30 minutes prior to drinking, certainly didn't hurt. I know it's expensive and widely available and not a single-vineyard concoction, but Opus has really never disappointed me. Definitely an elite wine.

October 2, 2020 - The wine was a bit over its peak, but enormously satisfying to drink. While it lost its Opus One power, it was very subtle, and had reached a smoothness, with muted tannins. And it still had a delicious mixed fruit bouquet. We had it with a risotto made with freshly picked local mushrooms, and a fantastic imported sardinian cheese, which could have over powered it, but the wine had the coherence to stand up to it, and still have its delicate elements come through. Drink now !
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is medium. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.
