February 15, 2020 - Wow...amazing Gruaud Larose, maybe the best vintage I've tasted and it's in a really good spot right now. Still young and probably 5-7years from its peak...but it's still a lot of fun to drink if you decant for 2-3 hours. The 2 most impressive aspects of this wine are texture and structure. Tannins are present but EXTREMELY fine and the overall structure is big and very polished. Deep, dark and super balanced are the first things that come to mind when you taste this great bottle.

On the nose and palate you get dark berries, leather, dark chocolate and a touch of espresso. Unfortunately, that was my last bottle...hopefully, I'll be able to find a bottle in a restaurant in 2025. Cheers!

December 8, 2019 - A classic second Grand Cru Classé from a top vintage. Intense colour, dark chocolate, black berries and a touch of leather/animal aroma on the nose/palate. Excellent structure with high quality/polished tannins and perfectly balanced. Long finish. Enjoy now with a 2h+ decant or cellar for an additional 10 years.

October 1, 2019 - Particularly en magnum, this is a big wine but not an unbalanced wine. Blueberry, cassis, cedar, mineral, and truffle - big and intense but not hot. Very much in manner of 2010. Long, rich, mineral-laden finish. Clearly not at its apogee, though unlike some others I found this very accessible and articulate tonight. 95-96

June 30, 2019 - 2nd bottle from a case bought en primeur. Served a little warm on a hot day and improved after putting the decanter in the fridge. Blackcurrant nose a touch restrained. A very feminine, lovely and easy to drink claret yet it has enough tannic backbone to last longer than it appears.

(Château Gruaud Larose) Very dark red violet color; very appealing, tart currant, graphite, pencil lead nose; tart currant, mineral, pencil lead palate with near medium acidity; medium-plus finish 94+ points (68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot)

(Chateau Gruaud-Larose (St Julien)) This is Cabernet Sauvignon 66%, Merlot 28% and Petit Verdot 6%, and the alcohol is 14%. A dark and glossy crimson hue, with a dark core. Quite an intense dark fruit nose too, a very direct style, with some rose petal perfume on the side, along with tinges of burnt tobacco and soot. A palate of well-framed fruit and texture here, well defined and linear as per the nose, with a show of supple, lightly grainy tannins in the middle. Good acidity here. Quite substantial, although with fresh and lively fruit. As a whole this is really well composed, blending seamlessly into a structured finish showing that there is indeed a lot of grippy tannin buried here. And it goes on and on in the mouth. Very good potential indeed here, and one of the most convincing showings from Gruaud in recent years I think.
