February 12, 2020 - Concentrated and sweet like jam or liqueur, that's not Bordeux for me, you can get that in California too! Was Robert Parker drunk when he gave the wine 100 points?

February 4, 2020 - Delicious. A great wine to celebrate 36 years of happy marriage. The only problem is that after we finished the bottle we were looking around for more.

January 31, 2020 - 2nd tasting of this wine within a month. This wine scored 100 several times a few years ago. Has started developing aged characteristics. Firm structure and intense fruit. Peaty iodine aromas/flavours. Graves like gravel/plum. Starts deteriorating after one hour from opening. It will be interesting to follow this wine over the next ten years.

December 24, 2019 - This 9 yr old wine is still young with an opaque core and ruby meniscus. It takes about 20 minutes in the decanter to open up. When it does it offers up typical cabernet/oak aromas and flavours such as blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, nutmeg, cafe au lait and spices. Perhaps more terroir based Grave features are the peat, smoke and gravel. Firm structure, good length and well balanced. The wine may be going through a difficult period as it scored much higher a few years ago. At one hour it became unbalanced and overly sweet. Interesting to try again in 5 years.

December 8, 2019 - Did not have the chance to decant this and that was a big mistake I assume. Started out rather closed down and only at the end of the bottle the potential came through. I‘ll do better next time.

(Château Pape Clément) Opaque red violet color; fresh, tart black currant, loam nose; tasty, rich, tart black currant, loam palate; medium-plus finish (62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc)

(Chateau Pape-Clément (Pessac-Léognan)) Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 50%. A glossy crimson-black hue here. No surprises on the nose, the evident fruit even at this stage already more than matched by a wild, feral, organic character with a dried-wood twist. Rather boldly composed on the palate, which speaks more of structure and woody tannin than it does fruit, which does its best to catch up in the midpalate although never really manages. Rather dry and rasping in terms of its composition, the tannins feeling heavily extracted. Did they cut back on the extraction here?
