September 3, 2022 - Winapalooza VI; 9/2/2022-9/4/2022 (Atlanta): What a beautiful wine! I am always a little nervous opening 2010 BDX, most aren’t ready but this one was in a great place. Drank over dinner at St Cecelia with a dish that was too spicy for the wine but it was still damn good. So many layers—plums, tobacco, balsamic. Soft, but with an edge that kept it interesting. Great now and no rush. Thank you Mark!!

September 3, 2022 - Decanted 5 hours then placed back in bottle under cork before taking out to a great restaurant here in Atlanta for our dinner with our hosts Mr/Mrs DQ and their daughter. Enjoyed by our hosts and myself. Carol threw up her bigoted Bdx nose at it! If there is one word to describe this wine it is SOFT......great floral Bdx nose and classic taste profile but it is just so damn soft! Like someone put it through water conditioning equipment and softened it! Not a sharp edge or angular component to be found and so many deep layers to the dark fruit profile. One of the most unique mouthfeel of wines I've had in quite some time......so much fun.

August 22, 2022 - I was so afraid to pop the cork but unfortunately I have made the decision to educate my palate in how to recognize age worthy wines from other wine makers whom no one may no about. I would love to build a world class cellar of wines people do not know about! One strategy could be not breaking the bank, but another would be maybe I find a diamond in the rough and end up with some sleeper collector's items.
That being said, I was right, this wine sadly has no business being open right now. It is incredibly powerful, chewy, wave after wave of tobacco, black cherry, saddle leather, licorice, peach pit, and the peach pit is problematic, the tannins really scrape the finish with this peach pit flavor and astringency. I could do with the volume turned down on everything a couple notches. Based on other vintages of LP, hopefully this will happen. In fact as I think about it, one of my initial tasting notes for this was beef stew and I just remembered that the 1982 LP I had a few years ago had a delightfully floral minestrone soup note. I have always been patient with BDX so I feel strange scoring this, I have never had an LP this concentrated so I cant say I know exactly where it is going. If it relaxes how I hope this is very near First Growth territory. If it remains so in your face, its a 92 point wine, however, if it knits together and stops screaming, 98. Ill go 95, in the middle, for now.
Edit: I decanted night before and immediately put everything back in the bottle and corked it, this tasting was done at lunch, so about 18 hours of slow ox. I took a sip upon opening and it was super tight with what seemed like a hint of Bretanomyces. That blew off overnight and it turned out the bret note was just massive tobacco concentration.

July 21, 2022 - One of the greatest noses on a wine, ever. The bouquet jumped out, remembrance to 1995 Angelus. This wine is young, but shockingly approachable with 4 hour decant. Cassis, graphite, mocha, and pure silk. Sexy AF! Still some tight, gritty tannin, but this is polished and fricking great! truly exceptional!

July 8, 2022 - Deeply colored, the wine is rich, long, deep, and concentrated. There is a fresh, spicy edge to the black and dark red fruits with lift, purity, and structure balance. The tannins are ripe but powerful, and present. But it is the wealth of sweet, ripe, fresh fruits that you notice the most as they coat and linger on your palate. Give this a bit more time in the cellar before pulling a cork, allowing the wine to soften, fill out and develop more secondary nuances. Drink from 2028-2055.
