August 6, 2019 - A lot of life ahead for this wine and definitely recommend decanting for at least two hours. Dark and brooding with a bit of barnyard on the nose, evolving to cassis and burnt oak after a couple hours. Baking spices, plum and tobacco on the palate. Full bodied with heavy tannins and long leathery finish. Should only get better with more time in the bottle.

June 22, 2019 - Decanted for one hour. Needs 2-3 hour decant. That said, very good after an hour. Funk on the nose, ripe red fruit. Ready to drink - luscious red fruit w graphite, funk, solid body. Medium finish.

June 22, 2019 - Just “OMG”. A toddler now. 10 year and it’ll still be youthful. Glad there’s more.

May 13, 2019 - Opened all day and decanted 1hr. Giving away very little on the nose. On the palate a mass of very concentrated dark pure ripe fruit supported by beefy but subtle tannins and seamlessly integrated oak. This wine is all about purity and precision but at the moment nowhere near ready for prime time drinking. Not quite a wasted bottle but this really needs another ten years to show what it's really made of. Glad I bought a case.

(Château Léoville Poyferré) Opaque purple red violet color; very appealing, mocha, tart black currant, cedar nose; appealing, mocha, tart black currant, cedar palate with good acidity; medium-plus finish (61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc)

(Chateau Léoville-Poyferré (St Julien)) The assemblage here is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, the pH 3.7, and the alcohol comes in at 14%. Léoville-Poyferré, by comparison with Léoville-Barton, has a slightly less dense, more vibrant crimson hue. There is though a denser style to the fruit here, more damson and cherry, dusted with sweet icing sugar; I suspect this reflects the 30% Merlot. The palate is amazing though, showing a very relaxed and elegant start, with an almost juicy feel as it sits in a very open and relaxed style, underpinned by firm grainy tannins and very subtle, tingling acidity. This is very fine in its composition. Again, silky is the word here. Very fine indeed.
