October 19, 2020 - Lots of cassis, round and smooth, some smoke, vanilla and cedar. Ripe Pauillac with juicy fruit, definitely from a big year. Medium to full bodied. Still young but very drinkable now. Impressive!

July 17, 2020 - Day II, fridge & vacuum. New wine shop in HCMC, somehow "duty-free". 100USD. So 100% tariff. Reasonable for SE Asia.
Rustic purple in the glass. Rich looking, not extracted. Wow, stinky fella here. Behind that mess is some nice ripe fruit, the nose playing into the herbs and ripe lush fruit.
Soft palate, some nice density w/o viscosity, sharp fruit, then sharper fruit, then it expands nicely in the palate, bright fruit, pencil, acid & tannin battle the fruit.
Long finish. Fruit/Acid/Oak/Tannin just still hanging on together. Great w food. Agree w a lot of what @Chatters describes in the flavor profile.
Drink now w a decant or open in morning. Long life ahead.

June 18, 2020 - From Coravin. Again, like the 2009, polished oak but everything is a little more austere and serious here, savoury cassis if you can imagine such a thing, almost a touch of soy sauce, black plums, sweet spice. Medium plus acidity, savoury black fruits, plums more to the fore here but still that cassis note, tannins are present but integrated. Balanced. Long. Young but, for me, better than the the 2005 and 2009 on this showing.

May 17, 2020 - Decanted; evolved over four hours. Lovely fruit. Cedar & cigar box. Nice dark finish. Early days but already enjoyable.

April 10, 2020 - Corona virus lockdown night in. Half bottle. Long three hour decant. Needed more, very young. Softened over a few hours. Excellent wine, very rich, packed with black berry fruit, graphite. Will be a beauty.

(Chateau Batailley (Pauillac)) Cabernet Sauvignon 78%, Merlot 19%, Petit Verdot 2% and Cabernet Franc 1% - very similar to 2009 just with slightly more Cabernet, slightly less Merlot - with 13.5% alcohol. This has a vibrant appearance, with decent concentration of colour. There is a rich, creamy fruit vigour here on the nose here. This is certainly promising. Quite smoky aromatically, and there is some influence from a rather flashy application of oak here. The palate has a very soft and gently creamed start, with the very broad and open style that I expect from Batailley. Lovely fruit quality though, and piles of charcoaly tannin underneath, and also good acidity to back it up. Really tight grip in the finish. There are elements here that are lovely, but it seems rather loose-knit. Nevertheless this is one of the best showings of Batailley I have ever tasted; if it tightens up in barrel it could be very fine indeed.
