December 8, 2018 - Nice and even better after 1-2 days open in the decanter. Not much in the way of sediment in this bottle.

April 14, 2018 - Full bodied, complex, ready to drink in 2018. Some sediment.

March 31, 2018 - I gave this bottle the requisite decanter time (~2hrs) and drank with a Filet and all the fixings, yet it still disappointed. Unlike all prior vintages that I’ve bought, held and enjoyed most at the 9yr mark, this one fell far short. Quite likely, it is a sign of control moving away from the family and into corporate hands. Sad, how this continues to occur throughout Cali Wine Country...and with similar results!

February 11, 2018 - First Private Budget Red Quaffer Re-Buy Contest Marathon; 9/1/2017-2/13/2018 (At Home): Decanted for 50 minutes on day 1 and consumed across 6 consecutive days. Ruby glass almost opaque with extract. Nose of cassis, cowberry and a hint of cigar box. Starting with day 2 I noticed pencil and black pepper, by day 4 a confectionary cooked strawberry compote. Palate pretty jammy and chalky, blackberry, on later days blueberry and a remote valerian, some burnt caramel, graphite, certainly rather sweetish. As a matter of comparison, on days 1 – 3 it reminded me a little of the 2010 Guigal CdR, with a little better balance, and on days 5 and 6 of the Sessantanni Primitivo, but retaining the chalky and graphite aspect of the first days. Anywhere from good to pretty good, a definite pleaser, but over 20 € for it seems a little too much in my book. Guess I should stick to my old world.
    90 on days 1 and 2,
    92 on days 5 and 6.
More of a dessert solist than a food wine, much like the mentioned Sessantanni Primitivo.
