March 24, 2018 - Really impressed with the youth of this wine. Mostly cab blend from Cayuse. This wine was very silky, rounded. I didn't have enough of this one to get a good grasp of it, and by the time I went back for another sample of it there wasn't too much left. I remember more of a classic blackberry front, a hint of dark chocolate. Washington cabs can really be an unpredictable thing (at least with my palate) but this one was pretty solid. Finished with resolved, softer tannin structure although I think this one still has a few years of life left before it heads downhill. I would have never guessed this was a 2002.
December 1, 2014 - At Miller's Guild. Tobacco, kirsch and blackberry pie. More overtly ripe and roasted than the previous bottle.
November 15, 2014 - Shared in San Jose. No sign of fading, just great secondary development and a bit of pleasant funk. Didn't decant but noted that the wine seemed to get younger and brighter as we got further into the bottle. A *great* showing for aged WA wine.
September 9, 2013 - A solid cab, fading a bit. Ripe and slightly grapey nose, beautiful smooth mid-palate, a few secondary characteristics. By no means dead, but no need to wait.
March 10, 2013 - Nice but fading. Secondary flavors showing more than the fruit.
October 27, 2012 - State v. State throw down at the Ross'. First offering of the evening; this came out of bottle a little astringent for me - was worried it was past prime. But it settled down nicely and was ultimately the clear choice as night favorite. Silky smooth, with the faint hint of funk on the back end that's made this label famous. If stored right, these could have a few years left to them ... but why chance it?
December 20, 2011 - Perhaps this needed more air time to wake up, but we weren't getting much off the palate with this one. Beautiful nose of violets, chocolate and vegetables, with only a hint of red fruit. Flavors were somewhat muted, with only a bit of fruit and cocoa coming out, and dropping off rather quickly. Somewhat of a disappointment, considering the glowing reviews below.
August 9, 2011 - My first experience with Cayuse Bordeaux I believe. Stewed tomato - very unique qualities on the nose.
Very unique leathery, savory, cabbage. Took a bit to open up but drank really well throughout the rest of the evening.
Everyone loved the eccentric action and the palate sang with a fort worthy mid palate that was almost a climax in the experience.
Not overdone. Elegantly made with a vegetal savory tour de force.
February 12, 2011 - One of the best wines I have had in a while. Currants, cherries and a hint of coco.
February 4, 2011 - Damn - corked
