November 21, 2021 - Not much signs of aging here. The wine is still deep purple with color all the way to the rim, an evidence of the rather high proportion of Mourvedre and Syrah in the mix. The nose is first dominated by sweet blackberries and blueberries with a pronounced element of black pepper, a hint of thyme, as well as a wonderful tarry/earthy undertone. Full bodied, sweet blueberry attack, silky tannins and a very fine acidity. The sweet berry fruit follows the whole tasting curve, supplemented by pepper and licorice. Amazingly fresh and elegant for such a full-bodied wine. The aftertaste is long and fresh, with a small hint of alcohol at the end, but not something that feels troubling. This is just a wonderful wine combining full throttled fruit, fine structure, and still a quite elegant impression. Some Grenach-based producers may make more impressive wines, but this is still in a class of its own. A beauty, and still in its prime. Drink now, or keep for 20 years +.

September 14, 2021 - Pretty flat after opening. Needed one hour to get together: Ripe black cherries and blackberries, tannins, spices (pepper). Drinking well, still on the younger side, apogee most probably in 3-5 years.

August 14, 2021 - This bad boy isn't even remotely ready to drink. None of the nuances or secondary notes that I know are there, but at this stage in life are refusing to show themselves. Leave this until 2025 and then enjoy it I am sure. The 2014 Coudoulet we had the following night was the better wine at this time.

August 13, 2021 - Porteno/Bastardo Covid supper (KC's place): From Coravin. Well, this was flat as a pancake and refused to open in the glass. I'm hoping it was just that the glass was a little grubby/stale aired as previous tastings with this bottle have proven mostly efficacious from an enjoyment perspective...

July 21, 2021 - That bottle 2: Decanted 1.5 hours. This wine is savory and fits my expectation for a Beaucastel. Perfumed and herbal, black to almost purple fruit. Singing finish. Wait 5 years and it'll be better for sure, but this is nice to drink now.
