September 4, 2019 - Tasted over three days. Minimal bricking. Notably fresh and lifted, exceedingly so, and yet the wine has softened over the past 20 months. Tannins are better integrated too. I much appreciated the modest oak treatment. No round edges or harshness, rather impressive substance, which requires time. The wine borders on greatness now, a status which (in my view begins at 94 points) I expect it will achieve in time. A beautiful wine of an exceptional vintage. In a flight of four comparably priced, 2010 vintage mostly Bordeaux variety offerings, this stood out as the fullest and most complete. Enjoyable now after a 4+ hour decant, but why not wait a few more years? High QPR! 93-94...95?

August 5, 2019 - In a transition phase. Give this 5 more years to let the oak settle, etc. A lot less fruit than previous times and the freshness is not there anymore.

No decanting required; always a good value wine and never fails to satisfy me. This 2010 has a dark colour and a hint of berry bouquet....the body is medium and the finish is lengthy...exhibiting a balanced representation of this chateau’s style...

June 17, 2019 - Very earthy, probably needs a couple more years to mellow the tannins. Medium depth, very enjoyable. Took about 2.5 hours in decanter to peak.

May 14, 2019 - Opened last night. Very dark ruby. Iron and red fruit nose. Pretty tough and tannic at this tender age. Lots of fruit, but it’s hard to appreciate given how rugged the wine still is. I’ll hold off another 5 years before trying another bottle, because this has plenty of stuffing for the long term. 4-11-15-8: 88/100.

(Chateau Sociando-Mallet (Haut-Médoc)) The blend here is approximate, but should be around 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, about 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Rather intense and deeply coloured, dark with a crimson-blue rim. Really polished and expressive fruit character on the nose, moving into cherry and plum. There is a lot of substance immediately apparent on the palate, showing a broad flesh but with a fine-boned tannic structure coming through the lightly juicy fruit. A good acid core, keeping it fresh and lifting the dark fruit, is apparent here too. A slightly savoury fruit finish, tinged with chalk, with good length, this has a polished-stone feel rather than anything more seductive. Lots of promise, the tannins only showing a more meaty character in the finish; otherwise it seems quite restrained. This will do very nicely.
