January 12, 2020 - This was one of the best wines I’ve ever had. Still so youthful and elegant. Excellent from nose to finish.

December 22, 2019 - This was the second time I have had this. This time the bottle immediately gave off a fair amount of VA in the form of nail polish remover smell. Decanted 2 hrs - and it took an hour for the VA scent to blow off. Yet it did, leaving behind a very evolved wine with subdued dark fruit, plum and pomegranate, with a heavy dose of saddle leather, tobacco leaf, smoke, graphite. Taste was heavier on umami and seared meat than before. Eventually a new lilac smell showed up, the closest thing to violets this time. Very strong grip; this is the typical tiger-Ch Margaux you get in the great years. A wine that makes you think of animal predators. Still a great bottle but if this were my sole experience I would say drink up. Since I have the earlier experience I would just chalk this up to bottle variation.
Score: 94. Relative to expectations: - , but only because this was inferior to the earlier bottle.

December 16, 2019 - A small impromptu dinner - 08 Champagne and Chateau Margaux (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): The only fully mature wine of the flight. Fully mature complex nose displaying ripe sweet red and black fruit, crème de cassis, a hint of cherry jam, plum, caramel, strong Margaux perfume/flower, lead pencil, strong cedar, a hint of ash and earth. Perfectly integrated harmonious palate, layers upon layers of sweet slightly dry red fruit, rich, silky and polished, medium acidity, strong mineral, fully resolved tannins and a seamless long sweet red fruit driven finish with rose and cedar at the end. Assaf initially loves the nose but finds palate slightly short. With air, it gains weight and becomes richer. The last sip is the best sip Excellent showing.

December 16, 2019 - Tasted double blind. While fully mature this had so much tension, freshness and concentration that my guess was high-end Pauillac from 1990. From great bottles like this should easily continue to deliver the highest form of pleasure for a decade or even more. The highlight here was clearly the immense complexity paired with pure aged Bordeaux elegance. 97+ points.

TN: Coke, black truffles, leather, wet forest floor and a dark fruit core on the complex, intense and harmonious nose. Lots of concentration and intensity on the layered palate with the same aromas along a nice mineral component (slate/graphite), herbs as well as some more red fruit mixed in the dark fruit potpourri. Perfectly soft tannins, superb freshness, tension and very good length. The complete package.

Decanting: A short double decant should do the job.

December 13, 2019 - Tasted blind. Initially some wet cellar notes but disappearing over 1-2h in the glass. Wet earth, red currant and red cherry, leather, dried herbs. A bit of smoke. More leather and tobacco on the palate with a sweetish red and surprisingly fresh berry fruit. Lots of tobacco on the mid-length finish. Second pour got more mushroom from the onset. In a great spot right now with an impressive inter-play of secondary and tertiary aromatics. I would recommend a proper double-decant for immediate pleasure.
